An excellent collection of old and newer songs, October 19, 1999

I own no other Tony Bennett recordings and have not been a big fan (although my mom is!) but I had a hunch I'd like his music. This collection includes songs he recorded 40 years ago as well as more recent recordings and I am now hooked. Turn up the volume and listen to "Fly Me to the Moon" and you'll have a lump in your throat. Mr. Bennett's amazing range of styles is well represented on this recording. Highly recommend it.

A really nice and diverse collection from the career of Tony Bennett. The only problem I have is with "God Bless The Child" where Billie Holiday does a duet from the grave. These kind of studio trickery type"duets" are a classic case of just because you can do something it doesn't mean you should. There's no chemistry or interplay between the performers -- how could there be? I'm not sure why they bothered with that, but the rest of the CD is quite good.
