The diagnostic and therapeutic techniques involved in urology have undergone fundamental changes. New techniques have allowed medical practitioners to treat diseases which had hitherto been poorly understood and to introduce safer methods of investigation and treatment for common urological problems. This text has been designed primarily for medical students, especiall those preparing for the Final MB, and aims to provide the fundamental concepts behind current urological practice. It endeavours to encourage a practical approach to patient management by concentrating on the basics of clinical medicine - the history, examination, investigation and appropriate treatment options - in order to encourage the development of sound clinical practice. It also included more recent advances in urology such as stone surgery, the management of impotence, and AIDS.
