We spent 5 weeks on Vancouver Island this summer and this book was our go to guide. Honestly, I would have missed so many wonderful hikes and natural attractions without it. Example, the Wild Pacific Trail in Ucluelet. While most visitor's know about the Pacific Rim National Park on the west coast, this trail system provided spectacular views and easy, free access. After previewing the book at home I was able to conduct further research online for destinations that caught my interest. The maps are helpful, though if you're traveling the island for the first time like we were, a more detailed map of the entire island is worthwhile.

This book has lots of information on what to see, history behind an area, and where to go. It was a good investment and helped make our week more enjoyable. We did the entire island - from tip to tip. We took a lot of back roads (most of them dirt roads) - I can't say I've ever seen such well maintained dirt roads! They take you to some pretty cool, out of the way places and remote towns. This book helped us decide which towns to hit.
