ORIGINAL MIXES ARE BETTER,

I LIKE YELLO MORE THAN MOST BUT I JUST COULD NOT GET INTO THE "RE-MIXES" I HEAR ON THIS. I KNOW WE'RE TALKING MORE MONEY HERE, BUT BUY "FLAG","STELLA" &"YOU GOTTA SAY YES" INSTEAD. THOSE ARE CLASSIC PIECES OF ORIGINAL MUSIC THAT SHOULD NOT BE MESSED WITH. RE-MIXES ARE FOR HARD-CORE FANS ONLY. "BEST OFS" SHOULD PROVIDE NEW FANS WITH A PROPER INTRO TO THE GROUP, AND THIS DOES NOT. THAT SAID, I CANNOT GIVE LESS THAN 3 STARS TO A GROUP THIS TALENTED. "FLAG" IS THE ONE TO BUY.

ok but not great,

I am a Yello fan through and through. I am such a fan that I am having to re-buy some of their earlier albums on CD because I only have them on cassette(they didn't have CDs when I first got into them). So, that being said, here are my thoughts on this album. This is a "best of" with most of the tracks being slightly remixed. I can think of several tracks that are much better than most of the ones that were selected, especially from their "Claro Que Si" and "You Gotta Say Yes To Another Excess" albums. The remixes are not as good as the originals either. I was pretty disappointed with this album. I would suggest you just skip this and get the rest of their albums instead. You will appreciate them a lot more.

Yello is one of those duos that everyone knows their music but no one can say who they are. Their song "Oh Yeah" was featured in the 80's classic "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" starring Matthew Broderick, and it was also featured in the not-so-classic "The Secret Of My Success" starring Michael J. Fox. Some of the other tracks here were used in the film "Nuns On The Run" starring Eric Idle of Monty Python fame. This career spanning collection of 16 tracks is a great compilation. Call them what you will, weird, eccentric, bizarre, they still know how to make unique and interesting, and even funny music. Yello doesn't sound like any one else on the market, that's for sure. For those interested in having a great snapshot of Yello this essential collection is perfect. For those wishing to dive deeper into Yello's repertoire, the individual cds are mostly available in America. This is a must have for any rock collector.

Just Fun,

There are a few albums out there that are just plain fun to listen to. There are even a couple that are actually good musically. This is one of those musical fun albums. "Essential" uses sixteen tracks to cover a ten-year span of their music from 1981 to 1991. All of this music has a good beat to it, creative lyrics, and numerous sound effects. I wasn't disappointed with any of the tracks on this album, and although a departure from my normal musical tastes, I find myself playing this disc quite frequently. The album starts off with the now infamous "Oh Yeah" as appeared in a certain movie, but there is more to this group than this one popular song. "The Race" with its upbeat tempo made it into the movie "The Cutting Edge" for the skate routine. "Drive/Driven", "Lost Again", "Of Course I'm Lying", and "Desire" are slower songs that show this duo's writing ability. The quicker "Rubberbandman", "Pinball Cha Cha", "Bostich" and "Jungle Bill" show off more of their humorous side. If you grew up in the eighties, you will recognize most of these songs that are on this album.

Yello is doubtless of of the masters of the weird and unusual. Their album is moody and a masterpiece of the genre. A must for anybody willing to broaden their musical horizons.

This album is still awesome after all these years. It has stood the test of time, and out of all the compilation re-mix albums in my library, this one is the best by far.

If you like to dance and shake your booty you gotta get this one! I bought the cd for the song "Oh Yeah" and was excited that the rest of the cd was great! I can't wait to order their other cds!

Totally disappointed,

This CD is NOT the original tracks. It's pretty low-end remix of well-known songs. The print work is cheap. And yeah, the record quality is awful. I'm sending it back.
