More About the Author

Aaron Paul Lazar wasn't always a mystery writer. It wasn't until eight members of his family and friends died within five years that the urge to write became overwhelming. "When my father died, I lost it. I needed an outlet, and writing provided the kind of solace I couldn't find elsewhere."

Lazar created the Gus LeGarde mystery series, with the founding novel, DOUBLE FORTÉ (2004), a chilling winter mystery set in the Genesee Valley of upstate New York. Like Lazar's father, protagonist Gus LeGarde is a classical music professor. Gus, a grandfather, gardener, chef, and nature lover, plays Chopin etudes to feed his soul and thinks of himself as a "Renaissance man caught in the 21st century." This book has since be rereleased in 2012 as an "author's preferred edition," via Twilight Times Books.

The creation of the series lent Lazar the comfort he sought, yet in the process, a new passion was unleashed. Obsessed with his parallel universe, he now lives, breathes, and dreams about his characters, and has written ten LeGarde mysteries in eight years. (UPSTAGED - 2005; TREMOLO: CRY OF THE LOON - 2007 Twilight Times Books; MAZURKA - 2009 Twilight Times Books, FIRESONG - 2011, DON'T LET THE WIND CATCH YOU - 2013, VIRTUOSO - 2014, with more to come.) The author has just completed his twenty-first novel.

One day while rototilling his gardens, Lazar unearthed a green cat's eye marble, which prompted the new paranormal mystery series featuring Sam Moore, retired country doctor and passionate gardener. The green marble, a powerful talisman, connects all three of the books in the series, whisking Sam back in time to uncover his brother's dreadful fate fifty years earlier. (HEALEY'S CAVE, 2010; TERROR COMES KNOCKING, 2011; FOR KEEPS, 2012) Lazar intends to continue both series.

Lazar's books feature breathless chase scenes, nasty villains, and taut suspense, but are also intensely human stories, replete with kids, dogs, horses, food, romance, and humor. The author calls them, "country mysteries," although reviewers have dubbed them "literary mysteries."

"It seems as though every image ever impressed upon my brain finds its way into my work. Whether it's the light dancing through stained-glass windows in a Parisian chapel, curly slate-green lichen covering a boulder at the edge of a pond in Maine, or hoarfrost dangling from a cherry tree branch in mid-winter, these images burrow into my memory cells. In time they bubble back, persistently itching, until they are poured out on the page."

In 2009, Kodak gave him up for grabs, and during the year off before he landed in his coveted new job with KB America, he had time to explore and reconnect with his environment. Little did he know that several trips to the Adirondack Mountains would reawaken his passion for that part of the country. Two new books were written in that time frame, starting yet another mystery series, Tall Pines Mysteries. The first two combooks in the series, FOR THE BIRDS - 2011 and ESSENTIALLY YOURS - 2012 have been winning literary awards. Keep an eye out for SANCTUARY (2014), and MURDER ON THE SACANDAGA (2015), coming via Twilight Times Books.

In between all the novels, Lazar found time to issue three writing guides based on his many years of writing advice blogs, entitled WRITE LIKE THE WIND, volumes 1-3. These are available in eBook and audio book.

In his twenty-first book, Lazar has jumped genre. THE SEACREST - OCT 2013 -, a love story, is poised to capture hearts across the globe.

The author lives on a ridge overlooking the Genesee Valley in upstate New York with his wife, mother-in-law, two dogs, and cat. He finds grandfathering one of the most precious and important times of life, and spends as much time as possible with Julian, Gordon, and Isabella.

Lazar maintains several websites and blogs, was the Gather Saturday Writing Essential host for three years, writes his monthly "Seedlings" columns for the Voice in the Dark literary journal and the Future Mystery Anthology Magazine. He has been published in Absolute Write as well as The Great Mystery and Suspense Magazine. See excerpts and reviews here:

Coming home - those are the words that immediately came to mind as I read the first few pages of Essentially Yours, a sequel to the exciting mystery, For the Birds, by Aaron Paul Lazar. I had forgotten how much I loved these characters, and they welcomed me back with open arms like I had never been gone. That's part of the magic created by an author like Lazar. Don't get me wrong though, perfect strangers are welcomed into the fold as well because you could easily read this book without having read the first. Either way, you will never want to leave because the excitement and suspense is nonstop.

How many times have you read the second or third book in a series and felt that it just didn't live up to the quality of the first book. Sometimes the energy just seems to fizzle out, and your interest is no longer held captive. But if the author can find a way to recharge that energy and infuse it into subsequent books, he has found the secret to success. Aaron Paul Lazar, with three different series on the go, has definitely found that secret in this second book of the Tall Pines Mysteries series.

Turning the first page, it appears as if life is finally back to normal. Marcella and Quinn Hollister have resumed their happy lives running an antique shop and enjoying each other's company in their home on one of the beautiful finger lakes of upstate New York. After surviving an extremely dangerous adventure just a year ago, life seems beautifully quiet and routine. What are the chances that their lives could be turned upside down again? Well, some people seem to attract trouble, and apparently Marcella is a trouble magnet! While enjoying a relaxing morning swim before joining Quinn at work, her peace is shattered by the arrival of a pontoon boat from across the lake.

This was a very exciting book. I do use four thieves cleaner to clean my house & a homemade window cleaner. I clean with vinegar in my kitchen as it dis-infects better than bleach & is safer to use around food. Having said that this was a really exciting story to read. The characters are fun & believable. I really enjoyed this book.

OMG this is one of my all time favorites. Aaron has the talent for drawing you into his stories to the point where outside of the book nothing exist. I get so lost in all his books that my family usually has to hide them so they can have dinner, if they can grab it from me. Kudos Aaron, you keep me reading.

The action starts on page one as a beautiful sunny day at the Hollisters’ idyllic Lake Honeoye home is blown apart by a frantic visit from Marcella’s best friend, Callie. Callie has received a mysterious package from her long lost brother, Sky. This event has upset agoraphobic Callie enough to risk driving her boat across the lake to seek Marcella’s help.

No one has heard from Sky for eighteen years, so the sudden appearance of a package containing his old backpack filled with essential oils, a pouch of emeralds and a flash drive is cause for concern. Later that night, Callie is kidnapped and the Hollisters’ home is ransacked. Marcella and husband, Quinn, swing into action to find Callie and solve the mystery.

The mystery deepens and the Hollisters head for their cottage at Tall Pines in the Adirondacks, for safety and to search for clues. What they uncover is beyond anyone’s expectation. A widespread conspiracy exists and a research company called Outsourcers is at the center of it. Sky and the essential oils are involved and it’s up to the Hollisters to sort out the clues and figure out who to trust.

Written in first person from Marcella’s view, readers are once again privy to her thoughts and emotions as she tumbles from one hazardous event to the next. Since the local police seem to be involved in the cover up, Marcella contacts her friend, Detective McCann for help. He is a man that can be trusted, but will he be able to bring FBI help in time?

The essential oils add great interest to the story. Readers will want to learn more about the healing properties of the oils. There are some incidents of paranormal visions and events, making this an especially exciting mystery.

This well-written mystery was a pleasure to read. The idea of the plant essences and the hint of mysticism intrigued me. Quinn and Marcella were good characters that I enjoyed spending time with, and the suspense kept me reading late. Good book! I'll definitely read more from Aaron Paul Lazar.

**Hurrying up the cement path, I climbed the stairs to the front door that lead to her kitchen and knocked on the glass, "Callie! Are you in there?" An answering whine came from Beau, who jumped up and scratched at the glass from the inside. I knocked again, tried the door and found it locked. Running around the back side of the house near the road I hammered on the door. "Callie!" In the distance, I heard some shouting down the road, but my tunnel vision didn't allow it to penetrate. Anyway, I figured it was neighbors arguing with each other over something stupid like a property line. I bent down to get her door key out of the ceramic turtle that lived under her shrubs, and opened the door.**

**I sank onto the bed and sighed. Callie never went out, so what happened to her? Had Willow called the copy again when she spied her sister on her way back in the pontoon boat? Had they come and picked her up and dragged her off to jail? Shutting Beau securely inside, I stomped toward her house. A siren screamed in the distance, growing louder with each step. A cop car screeched to a stop beside the ambulance. And a coroner's van rolled up behind them both. Oh my God. Willow killed Callie. She finally did it.**

Marcie, Callie and Sky, Callie's brother, have been friends since childhood. Whee you saw one you saw the other two. Marcie and Sky actually became more than friends. They became lovers. But this all ended when Marcie decided to pursue her singing career and Sky joined the military. Then Sky came up missing and assumed dead. Marcie and Callie continued to be best friends even after Marcie married Quinn.
