Essentials of Banking is designed with appreciation for demanding professional obligations, with information easy to find and at your fingertips. Its nuts and bolts presentation explains the regulatory, business, and people facts of the business of banking in a handy, concise format. Whether you are a teller in a bank located in a small agricultural community in the Midwest, a management trainee in a regional bank with offices throughout the Southeast, work in a bank that has locations across the United States and several foreign countries, or you are someone who simply needs to gain a better understanding of banking concepts, this book will introduce you to the world of banking by looking at the industry both from a historical and present day perspective.

2.0 out of 5 stars truly an introductory text., May 11, 2010
This book is an ideal introduction to banking for those schools that give you a degree really fast (and leave you with a lot of debt and/ a questionable degree). This is also ideal for vocational high schools as well. If your looking for a book w/ a solid introduction to banking pass this and get ABA's "Principles of Banking" ISBN: 0899826024....

If you want a book to introduce to what banking is REALLY all about perhaps start w/ literature from find a good historical survey (i.e non partisan) about the Fed and their actions, read some Milton Friedman and supplement all this w/ Austrian School of Economics and the Chicago school of economics thought.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disapointing, November 1, 2009
Disapointing. Not useful. Many other books explain far better the classic features of banking. The text explains only the qualitative aspects of banking, not the basic quantitative features of risk, interest rates and accountability.

2.0 out of 5 stars A bit basic, August 17, 2009
A Kid's Review
Not too bad for a basic introduction to banking, particularly from a front line staff perspective.

Does not give too much detail into banking theory for management.
