Beautiful Romantic Bing Crosby Songs,

This review is from: Essentials (Audio CD)
This is a perfect introduction to a finely selected set of Bing Crosby songs. The CD showcases 12 of Bing's most popular hits, including Dancing in the Dark, I Surrender Dear, and Goodnight Sweetheart. The sound quality also is excellent, capturing the warmth and richness of Bing's exquisite voice while also rendering it crystal clear. As a child, Bing first developed a love for Irish music, then later became a drummer and singer in college and soon after joined the famous Whiteman orchestra. He crooned his way through over 150 popular songs in the 1930s, with 22 of them becoming #1 hits. I don't recall any other singer who could so equally master a romantic love song, a jazz creation or an Irish ballad with such passion, style and ease. I highly recommend this album as an absolute must for everyone of any age.Note: Another important CD to own is The Essential Bing Crosby, Sony label, which includes Temptation and Sweet Georgia Brown. Bing's voice in the thirties is truly one of the most wonderful, one of the most beautiful voices I have ever heard. Also, if you enjoy music of this era, you will not want to miss the brilliant Ray Noble Orchestra with Al Bowlly as well as the delightful music of Hal Kemp, Joe Loss, Eddy Duchin and Carroll Gibbons.

37 minutes of the "Essentials" That title is on the musical money!!! I bought this CD for,"Million Dollar Baby",because of his shocking raspy, loose Devil may care vocalizing and scatting on this number, that is unforgettable for me. I always want to play this piece more than once! The rest are well known and wonderful love songs;"Just One More Chance","Out Of No Where","Blue Of The Night","Sweet And Lovely", "I Surrender Dear","Blue Of The Night"(He had a hand in composing this song) ,"Wrap Your Troubles And Dreams","Stardust","Good Night Sweet Heart",Dancing In The Dark","I'm Through With Love" and "Just A Gigolo". At times Bings vocal power comes close to an Opera singer reaching the ear's of the audience in the last row. On my program,I played Bings first show from the Don Lee network,KHG,Los Angeles, the year was,1931. His show was to debut the week before, but he had Laryngitis, so it was postponed till the following week. Some of the songs were;"Just One More Chance","I'm Through With Love" sponsored by a Watch store in L.A. KINO VIDEO had put out some music from the 30's and one of them featured,"Blue of the Night" 1932 (15:)with Bing Crosby and the petite and cute,Babe Kane. "Auf Wiederseh'n, my Dear","My Silent Love","Everytime my Heart Beats","Blue of the Night" were the songs in the film. He was one of the great crooners, for sure. Check my review on the other great crooner. Heres a hint; R.C. |
