4.0 out of 5 stars Javascript: a better way..., October 28, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Essentials for Design JAVAScript Comprehensive (2nd Edition) (v. 1) (Spiral-bound)
Book contains adequate material to give a newcomer to web coding a broad overview of what's involved. The methodology of scripting in general and particularly using Javascript to allow web sites to have interactive (dynamic) capability is a must for success on the internet. The book does a good job of conveying the usual terminology and techniques but is a little repetitious in doing so. There are many other titles which can do the required job for a cheaper price and smaller page count. The only major distraction to book usage is the oversize spiral ring holding the pages together. A smaller ring or just simple binding would have make this a more attractive purchase. Did not find the enclosed CD's to enhance quality of the package very much if at all. One nice touch is the fact of coloring used in presenting material (black/white pages are after all a little dull). Having said all this - must add a lot of work was done by author in tying all the loose ends together so a novice can actually begin to make sense of it all.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not the greatest, February 24, 2008
This book was used for a JavaScript course I took in college. It was easy to understand but introduces topics in a uncommon order. I know a few common programming languages and have read many books on multiple languages and this one is definitely unique. It expects you to do an exercise after every knew thing you learn which is a waste of time for the experienced programmer.

Could have used better planning.
