Editorial Reviews

Review

"The book's strengths include its ability to explain in plain language the beauty of economic theory; the concise manner in which real world examples are integrated into the text; and, the online assistance that does an effective job in complementing the text."

"I think that the greatest strengths are that it is clear (written in a student-friendly language), relatively concise, and provides a good coverage of what I think students need to know about principles of economics. I think that the style of the text is personable and is easy for students to read without being condescending. In terms of the coverage, as I noted above, we cover the entire text in my one-semester class, and cover just about exactly the entire text - no more, and only a little (two chapters) less."

"I find navigation process very simple. I am very impressed with Meet your tutor - Master the Learning Objectives section (that is so well planned out and organized). If students are having problems with any of the material and they're serious about being successful in this class, it is impossible for them not to understand the material after doing suggested activities in this section. "Ask the Author" video clips are interesting and clever. "Economic Applications" section also has good navigation system and can be useful for teachers and students both."

1.0 out of 5 stars Great book, but terrible E-book, June 30, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I was giddy with joy when I found out that this book could be ordered in Kindle format and I can take it around with me on my iPad. I had some technical problems at first, but those were easily resolved after some digging around.

I glanced through the paper version before I bought this, and it looked like a great good. But the E-book version sucked big time. It contained all of the non-essentials (like a picture of LeBron James), but failed to include ANY of the important graphics, such as the numerous charts explaining important economic principles.

How can the author (or the kid who operated the OCR to digitize this book) expect us to understand what's going on WITHOUT any of the vital graphs and charts?! This is terrible!! Epic fail to the 9th level!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Made the impossible possible, October 10, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This textbook was assigned for a Graduate Economics course I am taking. I have no background in Economics so I was quite intimidated by the subject. But I have to say that the text is rather easy to read and the way that it is written makes it enjoyable. I really like the "quick quizzes" that are throughout the chapters. I utilize them to check to see if I have retained what I have read. It really helps me out when it comes to taking exams in class. I would highly recommend this text for other professors to use for their classes.

This review is from: Essentials of Economics (Hardcover)
The book is so easy to understand. I recommend to buy the student guide as well. For Homework, it is a good idea for the instructor to assign homework from Aplia website. It is so fun to solve Homework using Aplia
