I came across The Essentials of Instructional Design while looking through a book catalog. As an instructional designer, I am continuously looking for new resources that I can use and share with colleagues. This book is a wonderful resource for instructional designers or a beginning book for those who are training to be instructional designers. It is well written and provides great coverage on important topics. For the price, you cannot go wrong adding this to your library.

This is a great book for staff who are starting in this role as there are limited courses that do not require you to purchase a lisence for templates etc. It gives a broad overview of thinking and learning. The structure and layout of the book is a good working example. Pleased with my purchase.

I was required to read this for a graduate education class and it was not particularly applicable to k-12 education. It would be very helpful for people who are in charge of planning training or classes for people in the workplace.

This book does a good job in covering the concepts of instructional design, but I hated how they quoted the same professionals in the field over and over again throughout the book. They should interview a wider range of ID professionals to appear more rigorous.

The book was nothing spectacular, but it came in the condition it was supposed to come in.
Could of been cheaper, but thanks Amazon.

I took a graduate course in Instructional Design and this was our textbook. About chapter three, I got the gist. These authors would start a chapter by summarizing the topic into a couple of paragraphs. Following that would be the work of four 'experts' in the area of Instructional Design. Then, the author summarizes the topic. Wow - - either come up with something original or pick one expert and explain why this theory or approach is on the mark. What a waste.
