I am a college student at the Univeristy of Colorado at Boulder. I was required to read Ahrens book and I found it very helpful and informative. At times it was a little dull and simple, but it covered the atmosphere and weather related topics extremely well. I recommend this text to anyone interested in weather. The pictures and graphs were great too!

My meteorology class used this textbook. I found it well-written and easy to read, and the keywords and summaries were very useful. I didn't need to read the whole thing because I paid attention in class, but any time I wanted to look up information, this book was there. Of course, I had the Kindle edition, and being able to search the book (and have my Mac's text-to-speech read it to me) helped.

Format: Paperback
I used this book in my Intro to Meteorology class at my junior college with the same professor I had for oceanography. Compared to another book in a similar discipline it is easy to see how well put together Ahrens' book is. The information builds well on top of itself, and the book has very relevant pictures and graphs in appropriate places to really compliment the text, not all books are this well organized. Each chapter also starts off with an eye popping anecdote which includes an incident related to the chapter, such as hurricanes or extreme microbursts. Another interesting point is that most of the pictures in the book have been photographed by Ahrens himself, reinforcing his credibility as a meteorologist.

Not to mention we live in the same town!

Beautiful illustrations, thorough explanations of sometimes difficult concepts about the behavior of gasses that are progressive; you learn part of the reason for atmospheric activity in each chapter, a slow and recurring relay of information that helps with retention and comprehension. If you're looking for a book about weather other than for school (where you're going to buy it anyway) then I would highly recommend this one.

Great book. The author really breaks it down so that anyone can learn and understand the weather. I would recommend this product to anyone who wants to learn about the weather.

Bought as a gift for grandson, but I started reading and learned many things I didn't know about hurricane formations. May look to purchase one for myself now!

Has lots of pictures &figures, plus it is relatively short chapters that are easy to follow. Mixes climatology and meteorology.
