5.0 out of 5 stars Great guide
I purchased this book from Amazon. It was way cheaper than the price in the bookstore at my university and it was brand new! I received the book fast and in excellent condition. Definitely a great buy and I would recommend others to purchase this book.

If you want a book that will explain nursing research in the most confusing way possible, you should get this book. The review questions on the CD help a good bit, but the book's explanations of terms and principles couldn't be more confusing. Throughout the reading they try to use "$10 dollar" words instead of simple understandable words that mean the same thing to describe very complex terms/principles. This just adds to the headache of trying to understand these terms/principles. The study guide book is useless. It uses crossword puzzles for each chapter review...yeah crossword puzzles. So you go from one extreme of using not-every-day words to the other of using 4 year-old games to explain stuff. I heard the next edition is going to have some connect-the-dots for us to do.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not all it is cracked up to be, May 26, 2003
By
Carol F. Krau (Nashville, TN United States) - See all my reviews
This book obviously rests on the laureates of Polit and Hungler who were once well known for their research texts. This is just a revision of the same old...same old. The chapter on qualitative research is incomplete, and the examples are outdated. There are many newer more up to date and creative texts that focus the students to CRITICALLY think about what they are reading as they read it. This text does not. Keep it on the shelf, or use it as a doorstop.

1.0 out of 5 stars this was published?, February 19, 2009
This is the worst textbook I have ever read. At first I thought it was just me, but after talking to several people in my class and asking my fiance (a physics researcher) about it, I am certain it is the book. The nicest I can describe it is "word vomit." This view is shared by every person I have talked to (about 20 people). It is disorganized and confusing. The examples are hard to follow and I am frequently left wondering if they know what they are talking about. This book should not be used in a class setting. I wouldn't waste the money on it and I am upset that I was forced to buy it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worst Textbook EVER!, July 24, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I have purchased and read numerous nursing textbooks and none are as bad as this one! Its poorly written and very difficult to follow. The examples are unclear and leave one wondering if the authors know what they are referring to. The context seems vague but questions (from the test bank etc) are black and white. Often terms are referenced from future chapters making the information very difficult to follow. Awful, awful text and I would not recommend it to anyone!

1.0 out of 5 stars word vomit a good start, March 28, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
As one other reviewer so eloquently put it, this text is pure word vomit. I have had to take research courses before and never have I had to read about it in such a complicated stew of word vomit. It was not written for beginners and I can't believe any undergraduate program would make this mandatory. Poor choice of text for those who are supposed to be research beginners. Pure crap.

1.0 out of 5 stars Essentials of Nursing Research: Appraising Evidence for Nursing Practice (Essentials of Nursing Research (Polit)), January 26, 2011
This is one of the worst books I have ever had to purchase. It is like try to find Mickey Mouse in Disneyland. This book starts off in the first chapters referencing facts that will be found in later chapters. This book should never be made mandatory for a student. It is confusing and extremly hard to read!!

1.0 out of 5 stars esentials of nursing research: Apprasing evidence for nursing practice, January 18, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Very poor quality book cover was torn and some pages from the index were missing. many pages were wrinkled. for a book that was rated as very good it was very disappointing to receive it. I had to buy a cover to hide the torn and wrinkled cover. I will not recommend buying from this place ever again.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worst ever!!!, July 20, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I am currently using this text and I am not enjoying it! The book is confusing, disorganized and frustrating beyond belief...I have spoken to our professor about it and she is trying to re-organize the class mid-stream because so many are having difficulty. The examples are confusing and even the book has difficulty explaining its own rational. To make matters worse we are taking this class on-line....maybe the book would be easier to understand if someone was spoon feeding the concepts to us but I doubt it. I agree with the other negative posts on here, I find the 5-star ratings "questionable". This book is a complete paperback headache!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book, July 1, 2009
I thought I would be bored out of mind with this book but it has turned out to be very user friendly, in-depth, and a great resource for my graduate course. I highly reccommend this book for a reference.Essentials of Nursing Research: Appraising Evidence for Nursing Practice (Essentials of Nursing Research (Polit))
