If you use the PAI, you need to add this book to your library. Although the PAI manual is very good; just like the MMPI, the subtleties of the PAI require a closer look. With this book, you will become more adept and the instrument more valuable.

Essentials of PAI Assessment
This book is an incredibly helpful guide to clinical utility of the PAI. Some of the other books in the Essentials series are pretty low quality, but this one is written by Leslie Morey, the creator of the PAI. This is basically like the assessment manual, but much more condensed. It's a quick reference and I fully recommend it for anyone who regularly uses and interprets the PAI.

The book is full of generally useful information. The validity and reliability information can be found in the test manual so is not really useful here. The chapters on scoring and interpretation are concise, well written and make it easier to come up with a comprehensive picture of the client. It is well worth the investment of both money and time.

This book is a valuable resource when making interpretations of PAI results. If you score the test using software that prints out a full report, however, the information in this book is similar (sometimes word-for-word) to what is written in those automatically-generated reports. The one section that is helpful is the chapter on "two-point codes." If you use the software exclusively, I recommend getting a different book so you have two points of view.
