Book Description

October 22, 2007 0393930335 978-0393930337 Second Edition

Regarded as the most authoritative introduction to contemporary sociology, Essentials of Sociology adds a new author to its team with the Second Edition.

Deborah Carr draws on her extensive experience teaching introductory sociology at Rutgers University to revise the book and add new material that underscores the relevance of sociology to students' lives. New chapter openers include a discussion of Hurricane Katrina in the urbanization chapter, a description of group behaviors of West Point cadets in the chapter on organizations, and, in the stratification chapter, a discussion of the pecking order among high school students.

2.0 out of 5 stars Could have been much better, June 8, 2008
This book was required for an intro to sociology class that I took and although this book is 'introductory', I felt that it could have provided more examples, sources, and evidence to the concepts it was attempting to convey. Another issue I had with the book was that the graphs that it included were ofter hard to decipher and were included with little or no explanation. Bottom line: Although the book does offer some interesting and useful information, it lacks helpful examples and explanations, so if possible choose a different intro to sociology textbook.

This review is from: Essentials of Sociology (Second Edition) (Paperback)
I purchased this book from Bunches of Books for only 27 cents + shipping. I'd have say that the book has been "well loved" lets just say, but for the price, I can't complain.

3.0 out of 5 stars Ordered New but came Damaged, September 10, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I ordered this book new, and it arrived wrapped in a paper bag that had ripped, causing the book cover to be bent and have a dirty streak across the cover that I cannot get off. Also, the pages are all bent on one corner due to the simple packaging. Quite disappointing when expecting a clean new book.
