It appears that the first guy to review this humidifier didn't bother to read the directions. He said there is no way to tell if the unit needs to be refilled. That is completely incorrect. The digital readout will indicate the level of humidity in the air but if one of the bottles is empty an "F" displays on the left or right to tell you that the bottle on that side needs to be filled. This unit definitely does the job but it is quite flimsy and it is very noisy. I find it hard to justify the $180 price based on build quality but it does do the job.

This humidifier does an amazing job. It raises the humidity in our entire home(split level)to a comfortable level where the winter skin-crawling sensation stops and the static-electricity in our hair and clothes goes away. Bemis/Essick stands behind their product better than any company I've encountered. Our motor froze-up and they replaced it at no charge even though it was out of warranty. They had no legal obligation to do so, but did it anyway because they had received a bad bunch of motors. They apparently value their customers and reputation.

We didn't buy this through Amazon, but I need to review it where I can. We have had to replace the power head three times dut to malfunctions, and the third time took about four months and only did we get it after complaining to the BBB!
Overall the unit does provide humidity and it is noisy on the high fan settings, but for this level of humididty to cover this volume what would you expect.
Problems with the third head now are that it doesn't notify when the tanks are out, so we have to just check it daily, but I'm not going to go through the H*** I just went through to get a new head.
The intake filters are a joke as they restrict the air flow so much, a lot goes around the filter as it has no positive seal to the unit (really, it just sits on the side).
Now, the stoppers on the tanks wont seal properly so unless I carry the tanks upright I'll dribble water all over the place (deal with Essick - NO!). I'll just have to make sure that if we turn off the unit to pull the tanks.
I seriously wish there was a unit that oculd put out this much humidity and not have the issues...

bought this item because of las vegas nv dry weather. the unit is supposed to humidify the whole home. with the blower on full speed to do that you would have to hide the unit in the garage and duct the air in because it is so loud. even at speed 1 (it has 9 speeds)it is louder than the floor stand fan i use to help it circulate the humidity. on occasion one refill bottle will empty and it doen't switch over to the other bottle and completely dries out the wick and the humidity drops dramatically. the caps that release the water from the bottles to the wick have a tendency to leak when you refill them so you have to be quick when putting them back into the unit or you will get water dripping on anything in their path which includes the control panel. when working properly it does a good job, but boy the manufacture does need better quality control.

This humidifier is what it is. After reading all the reviews it made me crazy. Yes, the fan is loud if it is set high ( 9 settings) but what do you expect a humidifier to do? It works by having a fan. I like the fact that water isn't sprayed into the air. It draws in the dry air and passes it through a wet wick. The cabinet is ugly, oh well. Is it cumbersome to fill daily? Yes. But what do you expect? Hire a nanny to fill it for you. It works, plain and simple!

I bought this product over a month ago and I love it. I have another manufacturers older product thats not working well so I bought this Essick one I've been telling my clients to buy. I install hardwood floors out here in the southwest where it is constantly dry. The hardwood floor manufacturers will deny your claim for anything (should you have one)if the inspector walks in and sees your rh is to low in your house. Believe it, I used to do inspections for manufacturers.

Even if you do not have hardwood floors or live in the southwest they help in dry winter months and helps your cheap foreign made furniture from falling apart and house plants. Hardwood has a healthy relative humidity comfort zone and so do humans. They are quite similar. Plus my kids do not get nose bleeds so often.

We received our new humidifier a little over a month ago. We were really excited to get it set up and running. After putting it all together we found that one of the sensors was broke so the fan would only run for one of the full water bottles. We called customer service and they made us figure out how to fix it for about an hour till they finally decided it was really a faulty part. They asked us to send them our receipt so they could send a replacement part, so we did. We got a confirmation email from a representative saying that warranty would get in touch with us. A month later we called to see what the hold up was and they did not even have our receipt. So we had to go through the whole process all over again. Hopefully we will get the new part after sending them the old one, like they say they will. We just want to be able to use our humidifier we paid for! Once we can use our humidifier properly we will rate it accordingly.

I was so hopeful because our house is so Dry! It arrived and my first thought was wow, should not have gone with the wood panel option. UGLY. But, I filled it up and put it in a corner behind a chair. We have a really nice digital weather station that monitors the humidity of the house. It went up about 2% after running an entire day. The unit said it went up over 15%. It is SOOOOO loud, even on the lowest setting. And it has a horrible clicking sound. I tried all sorts of ways to adjust it to alleviate it but the clicking sound is awful. It seems incredibly cheap. Sending it back and going with another Pure Guardian.

This looks just like the old one but is better. It has a sensor outside the unit and gives a digital reading. It also flashes "F" meaning it needs to have the tanks refilled. What a difference it makes in the house. We live in the desert so the air is very dry so the operation works well with heat and air conditioning. Just set the desired humidity and you're set. I keep it on low since the fan can be a bit loud. It automatically controls the on and off by the humidity level in the house. If you're looking for a whole house humidifier you just found it. May it last as long as the old one.

I received this unit last week. I am very happy with it. The water bottles are easy to fill. It came with a hose, but it is easier to use the side sprayer from my kitchen sink. The bottles have a handle to carry it to the sink, and another handle on the bottom to hold on to so you can lower it into the unit. An "F" will appear on the display letting you know a bottle is empty. The display has space for 2 characters, so the "F" will be either in the left or right side of the display, corresponding to the left or right bottle. When one is empty, it uses the other bottle. The bottles do not leak. The unit is loud on speed 9, but I just use speed 9 when nobody is home but me, or at night. Speed 5 is ok. The hygrometer is fairly accurate. I put 2 other hygrometers on the unit for half a day. I don't know about the motor since I haven't had it that long. My plants are smiling at me!
