Excellent Book for The Financial Estate Planner, December 19, 2010
This review is from: Estate Planning Applications (Hardcover)
If you want to understand the details of how to approach more challenging estate planning situations, this is the book for you. Ted Kurlowicz discusses many of the concepts that Certified Financial Planners must understand to effectively work with their estate planning clients, particularly those with larger estates, family businesses, or those who are not US citizens. The book does assume that the reader has a familiarity with the basic principles of estate plans such as gift, estate and generation-skipping taxes, as well as the basic estate documents such as wills, AB trusts, etc.. The book focuses on more advanced estate planning concepts such as life insurance trusts, family partnerships, trusts for charitable giving, and other issues that arise for non-US citizens, community property states and employee benefits. The book does not discuss every possible technique in advanced estate planning, but provides a fine overview of the range of techniques available.
The 8th edition of this book was published in 2006 and is obviously a bit out-of-date with the new and evolving estate tax legislation. However, the techniques discussed in this book will still have application in the latest changes of estate tax legislation.
