More About the Author

I write about the law in a down-to-earth way that people can really enjoy, use and understand. I cover any and all topics related to planning for the future, such as Wills, Powers of Attorney, probate, tax, health-care directives, business succession planning, loss of mental capacity and elder law.

My books are practical guides to understanding complex legal situations that are important to individuals, families and business owners. They are based on more than 25 years of experience with client files and court cases. The feedback I hear most often is "thanks for writing this so that I can understand it".

That's my goal - to make complex but vital legal information accessible to everyone.

Seven of my books have been published in the last six years, and more are on the way. I speak to all kinds of audiences including private companies, charitable organizations, sales teams and public seminars. I have been interviewed on BNN, Global TV, CityTV, CPAC, CBC Radio, the Wall Street Journal, the Globe and Mail, the Vancouver Province, the Edmonton Journal, Maclean's Magazine, Today's Parent Magazine, Caregiver Solutions Magazine, and many others.

Let me know if your group would like me to give a presentation. You'll be surprised at how funny and entertaining a talk about estate planning can be, while still packing in a ton of good information!

This book offers suggestions for discussing their inheritance with your children or other heirs. Doing this, with honest discussions with your children while you are still living, can prevent disputes among the children after your death. It also allows you to make your intentions clear to all involved. It further allows the children to prepare their own wills with appropriate consideration of any potential inheritance. It just makes good sense, and the book is a welcome discussion of how to do this.
