5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing!!!
I just got the book and I'm amazed at how authentic and easy these recipes are. Just looking through the book and I'm reminded of growing up in my grandfather's cuban restaurant as a child. All of the ingredients are staples in a hispanic household and the anecdotes before each recipe are so down to earth. I've never bought a cookbook where I knew, had or heard of ALL of...

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing!!!, November 14, 2008
This review is from: Estefan Kitchen (Hardcover)
I just got the book and I'm amazed at how authentic and easy these recipes are. Just looking through the book and I'm reminded of growing up in my grandfather's cuban restaurant as a child. All of the ingredients are staples in a hispanic household and the anecdotes before each recipe are so down to earth. I've never bought a cookbook where I knew, had or heard of ALL of the dishes AND all of the ingredients. There are several types of flan, mojitos, beans and rice. This cookbook is a must in anyone's household who is looking to get back to basics and enjoy some real home simple yet delicious cooking.

5.0 out of 5 stars Estefan Kitchen, December 29, 2008
This review is from: Estefan Kitchen (Hardcover)
This is an excellent book. It has authentic recipes. I know what Cuban food should taste like because I am cuban. The only thing I would add to some of the recipes is Sazon Goya for more flavor. If you want to have a book that is easy to follow and the recipes are as authentic as the food you will find in cuban restaurants in Miami, then get this book. This is my favorite cuban cookbook! I applaud the Estefans!

5.0 out of 5 stars Kudos to Gloria and Emilio, November 15, 2008
This review is from: Estefan Kitchen (Hardcover)
Kudos to Gloria and Emilio -- they have created a legacy for their children and grandchildren in this book that captures many of the dishes from "Lario's on the Beach" and "Bongo's." Many of the recipes exhibit the loving touch of Gloria's abuela Consuelo Garcia who, like many Cuban abuela's of that era, was mistress of the kitchen and a wizard with whatever ingredients were at hand. The Estefan's have included most of the Cuban classics and pepper their pages with amusing anecdotes that provide interesting insights into their 20-year music career. A must for both fans of Estefan's music and those who have enjoyed a meal in the couple's growing chain of Cuban restaurants -- including a popular location at DisneyWorld.

Great book. It has the typical cuban dishes made in traditional fashion, unlike the way some of the cooking shows cook Cuban dishes. If you want to learn to make dishes like your grandmother did, this book is for you.

This cookbook has been a real blessing at my place. The recipes are easy to follow and they really are delightful! Before we eat I always say Grace and my husband added, "yes, thank you God for making my wife such a good cook"! I had to laugh and say to my hubby, "just TG that I got this book"! lol

Unfortunately, it's all been done before and much better. Aside from the personal anecdotes, this book adds nothing to the Cuban food lexicon. Possibly a book for fans of Gloria's music, but serious foodies will find better recipes and fun, easy-to-follow directions in the aforementioned "Cook Cuban" and the newer work Three Guys from Miami Celebrate Cuban: 100 Great Recipes for Cuban Entertaining (Three Guys from Miami).

Gloria's music is great, no doubt, but her restaurants have never been known for much more than pedestrian fare and the unimaginative recipes here reflect that reality.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Introduction to Cuban Cuisine, February 18, 2009

I came across this cookbook by chance. But as soon as I started thumbing through it, I knew it was a keeper. It made me want to go home and start cooking.

There are a lot of familiar Cuban dishes featured in this book. Most recipes seem surprisingly easy to prepare with commonly used ingredients and only a few cooking steps. There are some nice pictures for each dish, which is a must for me since I am a visual person. And I truly enjoyed the anecdotes from the authors Gloria and Emilio Estefan which helped me to get a better understanding of their Cuban heritage.

Overall a great book for anyone interested in Cuban food and Culture.

4.0 out of 5 stars Delicious, January 4, 2009

I cooked Cuban pork, black beans and rice, and plantains for New Years dinner and everybody loved them. I have a couple of other Cuban cookbooks and the recipes in this one rank right up there with the others. What makes this more entertaining are the family pictures and anecdotes. The mojo sauce recipe in here is one of the best I have found.

IF you are like me, missing mom's cooking, you need to get this book. This is the only recipe book I found that has mom's recipe's in it. All our favorite dishes are in this book and easy to read, no complicated recipes.

I recommend 100%.
