This rocket is built for speed and for height. It is small with a very durable fin system. It is not a difficult rocket to make and it will take you about an hour to make it - depending on glue drying time. Everything about it is designed to minimize weight without sacrificing strength so it can go fast and high.
It has a streamer rather than a parachute which is a good thing because of the height it attains. With a parachute it could very well sail off quite a distance from your launch zone.
I like the solid fin system. They are stronger than normal. I found the recommended painting scheme to be a bit too much, even though I did it by the suggested way. You might just want to spray paint the whole thing one solid color.
Nice little rocket, cheap and fast.
Remember that this is just a rocket. You still have to purchase engines, wadding and a launcher if you are just starting out in the hobby.

We bought this rocket because we wanted to see how high we could send a rocket and - for less than $10 - if we lost it... well, no big deal. The rocket was pretty simple to assemble; it's not much more than a nosecone with fins. We painted it a solid fluorescent orange so we could see it from a distance. The only design flaw is the body tube is a cramped fit for the engine, recovery wadding, streamer and nosecone. Often, the nosecone is sticking out a quarter inch because we can't shove it in all the way.

So far, we've launched it a dozen times. On an Estes A-8-3 engine, the rocket flies almost out of sight. Often times we can only track it by the trail of smoke. The streamer recovery is adequate; except for some black scuffs and one chip in the paint, the rocket is in the same condition it was when it was first built. It is simple to set up, cheap to fly and pretty durable. We've definitely got our money's worth out of it!

My daughter's first rocket build (age 9). My son's alpha 3 fell about 40' from the launchpad with a B engine. The same engine propelled the Hi Flier completely out of sight...well over 1000'. Heard the streamer deploy, but the rocket did not have a contrasting color to it. I would recommend painting this a Hunter Orange or the like.

Winds were calm. 30 mins spent on a recovery, to no avail. Kids now hooked on rocketry.

I like this rocket as it is inexpensive, and it is designed to fly very high. We took it for a flight and lost it up in the clouds. Because of the streamer instead of a parachute, it came down near by but pretty hard. It stuck right in the grown when it came down. So we are planning to add another streamer so that it might come down less fast. The materials are fine though I think the fins should be from a stronger material. With a parachute the rocket will come down gently. With a streamer, it is going to come down much harder and so it is more prone to damage after a flight. To get the height, you need a C engine with a higher number. We tried a C5 and definitely got some height. Not sure how much since we couldn't see it for a while until the streamer was visible.

For construction I found that CA super glue, the type that dries in 5 seconds, works very well when attaching the fins. Just make sure that you place them carefully and right away and then hold. A few seconds later they are bonded for sure. When setting up the engine holder or rights that go inside the tube, be careful because sliding things into the tube is really tough. Once they get stuck they will seize up. Meaning that the glue set and the part will stay right where it is.

I must second the "Find a big field" posts -- almost lost it on my first launch when the wind drifted it over a fence. Was able to recover, but went and found a big field and launched it with C engines. Super fun. This rocket got me into the hobby, and I have now assembled 3 other rockets (most recent a 2-stager that I'm still painting and hoping to launch this weekend. Definitely recommend.

The hi-flyer lives up to its name, a bit too well! I put it together so carefully and painted it this cool yellow on black pattern. Just after the paint dried I ran out to the field to launch it. We did a few test launches on a different low flying rocket, just to get a sense of the wind conditions. It was dead calm. Unable to constrain myself I loaded a C6 and launched. I barely saw it go up, and never saw it again. Great model and a real thrill, just don't put too much effort into it!

Good price. I love these little rockets. Wish they had more, I would have bought several. They fly so high they often get lost. These are great for beginners and learning the tips and tricks to advancing to the next levels of more complex and higher dollar rockets. Practice makes perfect and I like to do it with this rocket.
