One of the best estimating books for building construction,
By Nathan Frenkiel (Tel-Aviv, Israel) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Estimating for Building & Civil Engineering Work, Ninth Edition (Hardcover)
Esitimating for building and civil engineeing works by Spence Geddes is by far one of the best estimating books. It is edited in a very useful way, it contains a lot of output which are very ueful for the average estimator. It also contains all the necessary inforamtion for all the overhead itmes for preparing a tender, like holding equipment, managment, rubbish removal, building permits etc.All in all, a must have for every serious constructor.

An extreme disappointment,

I cannot recommend this book. It is very basic, poorly laid out and the index is very poor. Just as an example, one of the many weaknesses is the poor treatment of plant depreciation. Three pages contain a very padded discussion of straight line versus Interest and depreciation methods without any discussion of their relative merits or fields of application. More seriously, there is no good data on the actual inputs to be used in the methods, eg economic life of plant etc. This is typical of the book, only the trivial aspects of estimating are covered.
