This is one of my favorite movies. Based on an odd short story by Robert Graves, it tells the story a man, played by Alan Bates, who has learned from a shaman in Australia how to place his soul in a rock and to kill people by shouting. Bates is terrific and enigmatic, and the supporting cast includes Bill Hurt, Suzanna York and Tim Curry. The film is great on atmospherics and will leave you befuddled and entranced long after its over!

A very unusual and satisfying theatrical experience dealing with black magic. If you enjoy disturbing psychological thrillers like "the Wave" or "Don't Look Now", this film just might grab you. Looking at the cast of the film, you can quickly see that it is not a light-weight ensemble, and these actors are remarkable in wringing out your every anxiety and dread. A must see!
