I purchased this to replace the one I inherited from my father - in 1959! I do extensive remodeling and construction and my 16oz Estwing leather handle has been with me on every project. I was siding a two story house in the winter of '91 in northern NY when I dropped the hammer in some deep snow and was unable to find it. When the snow melted in the spring, I retrieved it from the muddy yard. A couple months ago it started losing some of the leather rings and Estwing informed me there is no repair. I have a small assortment of wood handle, fiberglass, curved and straight claws, but the Estwing is nearly always the hammer of choice. It is solid, balanced, and nearly indestructible. I'm hoping one of my kids will be using this one long after I'm gone.

It's an Estwing....what else is there to say?

My framing hammer is an Estwing....my general shop hammer is an Estwing....and now my furniture hammer is an Estwing.

These hammers don't break or EVER fail. You lose them or your friends "borrow" them and you have to get new ones.

There *is* no other hammer out there.

Very comfortable fits right in your hand. Perfect for my trade which is windows and doors. Does everything i need it to do and not so big that im denting up my trim weighing down my pouch ect. Feels like it does the work for you when it comes to finish and trim nails. Love the leather handle and cant wait for it to wear out a little. No loud tinging like most other hammers ive owned (even other estwings)

Although the "genuine leather handle" of this E16S hammer is more like a slick hard lacquered wood, its quality is unsurpassed. Oddly, this model is about 3/4 of an inch shorter than the Estwing E3-16S 16-Ounce Rip Hammer which has a nylon handle. Between the two, I prefer the nylon handle, but having a steel tip on the handle's base is helpful for positioning and nudging pieces into place. As others have noted, this is a classic for good reason: time-tested design and simply a beautiful tool to own.

These out last and out perform all others I have used and many in the trades will tell you the same. This is a lifetime tool that will take abuse. The one that I have is over 30 years old and is as good as the day I bought it.

My Grandpa used one of these near every day. I use it near every day. Great balance, surprisingly little shock through the metal, can swing this thing all day long without missing a beat. The leather wrapped handle lasts YEARS. In fact, I still have my Grandpa's hammer at home. Bought a new one to keep in my truck... it's my go-to hammer for near all framing, finish work and general mayhem.

The leather wrapped estwing is the Cadillac of estwing hammers for any finish or fine carpenter. Even wannabes like myself can appreciate the craftsmanship and durability and superior quality this hammer represents.

If you enjoy working with a nice hammer, the Estwing leather grip is the way to go.
