I have this hammer and the 28oz milled face model that I carry everywhere with me. I use the smooth faced hammer for finish work and the milled face for framing. I love the balance and length of the handles. These are tough hammers, more than once when too lazy to get the right tool I have used the claws to break up concrete. I have put an 8' length of pipe on these and used them to pry stuff apart. Try that with a fiberglass or wood handle! I have yet to wear out the rubber grips and my oldest Estwing has been with me 15 years.

I bought the 22 oz smooth face hammer when I knew I wanted something for heavier work that the 16 oz wasn't made for. I had read the reviews about the milled face wearing down, so I went with the smooth face so I could use it for trim work if need be.

I have used this for extensive demolition of a bathroom, bedrooms, kitchen and utility room, primarily to take out walls and tear up old, rotten flooring. I have become so used to it that I can use it to nail trim and not leave a mark on anything.

Many people that complain about not using this or heavier really needs to practice and get used to it before going to work with it. It is a great companion that will last a lifetime.

If you need a hammer that can do heavy demolition, yet can help rebuild, this is a great hammer. If you need a hammer for basic work around the house, I recommend the 16 oz hammer.

All the reviews are spot on. You can't get a better quality hammer, made right here in the USA. My only complaint is that mine came well used with significant scratches and indentations. Now, don't get me wrong. It looks like a hammer should after some use, but this should have arrived new. It is as if somebody bought it and returned it after a significant construction project to save $20. This company should eye their products better when sending to people. I expect new items to come to me NEW, not USED - GOOD CONDITION. It is not worth sending back, but irritating to me nonetheless.

Three swings of this hammer will make you realize that Estwing understands the science of the tool. Feels light in the hand, extremely well balanced. 22 oz swings with effort of most 16 oz hammers. Handle is excellent and vibration is minimal to nonexistent. This is a tool you can use all day and not feel fatigue. When you need it, the claw is angled well and gets under the most stubborn of nails and has excellent leverage to pull them out. This is the last hammer you'll ever buy. Truly a great tool.

I have all sorts of hammers in my tool collection, and this one is my favorite all around hammer. I use if for framing, general construction, deck building, etc. It is balanced perfectly and there is virtually no vibration through the handle, so your hands and forearms don't fatique as quickly. Recommend this to anyone looking for one of the best hammers available.

Who doesn't like Estwing hammers? I've been wanting to by one for years, but couldn't justify a second hammer. So when my tools were stolen I finally bought the hammer of my dreams. The handle is slightly longer than the 22oz. Craftsman hammer that I had, but the grip is much nicer on the hand. Hope to have this one for many years (decades!).

I've had this hammer for 25 years and it has endured unbelievabe abuse and is as good as new. The nylon handle grip doesn't have a nick. I know I have done things to this hammer that have broken others. Don't look any farther.
