Product Description

The Etekcity® Mini Camp Stove is an amazing stove! Any shortcomings are owing to intentional and necessary design compromises aimed at keeping the stove as tiny as possible. The materials used are not the surgical quality metals we are use to seeing in high-end stoves but this takes nothing from the functionality of the stove. It may however, limit the functional life of the stove. But this must be taken in context: this stove does not claim to be a material equivalent or substitute for stoves that are 4 or 5 times the price. This stove will do a fine job for the minimalist or 3 season overnight/short trip solo-trecker. It's small enough to throw in the pack for day trips or in a fly fishing vest; truck box or car trunk, or even a lunch bucket---semper paratus!

If you're looking to get started into backpacking, this is the stove for you.

If you need something for a "back-up" in an emergency kit, this is the stove for you.

If you have a Boy Scout in the house, this is a great gift.

I have used a number of stoves during my adventures. My favorite is the Optimus Crux Stove. NOT the lite, but the old model Crux. It folds down, and mounts with the included bag to the underside of your fuel can. BUT it's usually around $40. I was shopping amazon, and stumbled on this stove and figured what the heck. It will be a back-up piece or a loaner.

Talk about being surprised.

First off let me say that when I go backpacking or camping, i do more than boil water and cook freeze dried ready made meals. I LOVE to cook. I usually surprise the people I am with when on the second or third night I back pizzas on the trail. Or when they wake up in the morning to the smell of bacon and eggs frying away on my backpacking stove. I've also recently made sausage gravy and biscuits on the trail, and the crew went bananas. (I dehydrated the sausage before leaving the house). BUT let me say that if this stove was more than $20.00, it would not receive 5 stars. Let me tell you why.

My favorite stoves have a larger diameter burner. I like to "bake" on the trail, and prefer to not have a "hot spot" in the middle of my cook kits. This stove concentrates its flame in the middle. My Optimus Crux fans out a little. BUT I carry the lid from a #10 fruit cocktail can that works very well as a diffuser. Don't use a coffee can lid, they are too thin.

BUT this thing can put out some heat. I set up a test, 2 cups of water in a pot. Turned both stoves on high, and let it rip.

I have put this stove to the test on several backpacking trips through the north west. Mostly heating water for dehydrated meals and coffee it heats a pot at rapid speed. I've even put it up against several other more expensive stoves and I'll tell you its heats water faster than a snow peak and believe it about 30 seconds slower than a jet boil. I've never had an issue with balance even with a full pot of beans or soup stirring around on top. And its conserves fuel as well as the rest of them if not better. Hands down the best 6 dollars I've ever spent.

For the money this little stove is hard to beat. I bought this stove for my son to use as a backup. Construction is a little flimsy and some adjustments to the arms had to be made.

Bought this for my son for Boy Scout hikes. Very impressed how quickly it will heat water. Compared to my Jetboil, it's impressive.

I took this on a weekend camp-out music festival earlier this summer just as an easy way to cook simple food. I don't go on these trips too frequently, so I figured that this thing would be appropriate.

It was sufficient at best-it's rather small. It can into your pocket, so it isn't very powerful and it couldn't hold sturdy any of my pots or pans by itself.

By the third day, I think something melted and it lost its ability to control the flame. The fire went out of control and it started a mild gas panic at my campsite.

If you're engaging in something any more extreme than camping with your ten-year old in the backyard, I'd look for something a little nicer.

The little feet that flip out on the top are not even close to level. The arms are a little bent as well. These are things I can cleanup with a file and a pair of pliers. I haven't fired it up yet though. The electric starter works great... I even shocked myself once to see how strong it was ;-)

Bottom line, this is an inexpensive product and it works... just don't compare it to an MSR or SnowPeak and you won't be let down.
