Editorial Reviews

2013 collaboration between Classical violinist Itzhak Perlman and Cantor Yitzchak Meir Helfgot. While rooted in the cantorial-liturgical tradition of Jewish music, the ten tracks on Eternal Echoes encompass a wide range of musical moods. The two masters began to explore the confluences of sound between Perlman's famed classical technique with Helfgot's magnificent golden voice.

I love Itzchak Perlman's violin playing, as in Schindler's list. I also am a great fan of Cantor Helfgot, who is without a doubt a Cantor and a voice that comes along once in a generation. However, the pairing of these two giants is not that successful. The music and violin playing is beautiful, but the tempo is much slower than in the original works, and this is very detrimental. The pieces come through as too slow and wistful, even the ones that lend themselves to a rousing audience participation in most previous arrangements, but NOT here. It also seems that Cantor Helfgot is holding back, in order to match the music, and it is a real shame to hold back such a beautiful tenor voice. I purchased this album, because I own all the other Helfgot albums, and wanted a complete collection, but this is definitely Cantor Helfgot's weakest work. If you want to have Cantor Helgot's complete collection of CD's, buy it, otherwise I can't recommend it. A great opportunity was missed here, and that is too bad.

Totally amazing. Loved every minute of this incredibly beautiful CD. I listened to the whole CD 3 times the first day I got it and Helfgott's voice echoed in my ears for days.

This was disappointing. Something seems to be wrong with the sound balance as the voice is far too loud for the accompaniment.

Perlman, as always, shines as the great Yiddishe violinist he is. This a "must have" album if you feel like sooting your Yiddishe Neshume.

The CD is beautiful, definitely better than I expected! It is the kind of album that people from many different walks of life can enjoy. Helfgott's vocals are impeccable, and Perlman is, as always, an incredible master of the violin.

Simple, unadorned melodies, sung the way your Zeyde would have sung them if he had been the greatest Hazan of his generation.

As someone who is a fan of both Perlman and cantorial music, I eagerly awaited the CD. I was delighted with the music and find myself playing it frequently. I even recommended it to my friend who bought it and thanked me for recommending the CD.

Great CD I was looking forward to the release and wasn't disappointed. I downloaded at 1:00 am NY time (right when it was released) and then ordered a hard copy of the CD tonight.
