Eternal Hunger by Cynthia Eden
Paranormal Romance- Dec. 29th, 2009
4 1/2 stars

In Eternal Hunger Cynthia Eden returns to her super sexy shifters! I love her shifter romances and this book did not disappoint. It grabbed me from the first page and did not stop! Cynthia Eden's paranormal world is complex and absorbing. If you are already a fan of her books you will have to purchase this book to add to your collection. If you are a new reader, be prepared for a fun, smooth read.

This story starts with Jude Donovan, a tough no-nonsense bounty hunter who ALWAYS gets his prey. But his latest capture brings with it trouble packaged in the new, ultra attractive Assistant D.A., Erin Jerome. All of a sudden he is bent on hunting an all together different type of quarry. Jude immediately senses something different about Erin and his inner animal wants her for his alone.

But Erin is no easy prey. She has sworn off shifters of any sort in her life. Erin is deceptively strong and no one even a shifter is going to push her around. Even if he does have a rough sort of charm that she finds attractive. Starting afresh in a new town, the last thing she wants are any complications. Which means keeping a low profile. And she knows a shifter will just bring her trouble. Unfortunately, her past and Jude's collide as Erin is targeted and Jude becomes her bodyguard. But Erin's ultimate test is taking the final risk and believing in herself.

This book was sheer pleasure from start to finish. Cynthia Eden is one of my favorite authors. I am hooked by her series because each of her books reveals something new about her world and her characters are always sympathetic and likeable. It is difficult to describe how enjoyment I feel every time I read one her books. Her ability to write a fast paced novel that is: fun to read, easy to get involved in and always satisfying. The mystery behind the Erin's past and a string of murders are engrossing, as unexpected changes make for a thrilling and riveting read. The engaging characters are genuine and extraordinary and I often felt a part of the story. Along with Jude there is a cast of his bounty hunter colleagues who I hope will be making appearances of their own.

I loved this story and look forward to her next book with great anticipation!

3.0 out of 5 stars It was okay, but..., July 2, 2010

This is the second book I've read by this author (I downloaded both as Kindle freebies). It was a little better than the first, but the author still has problems with her dialogue. Her plot idea was good, and her pacing was okay, but the problems with dialogue took me out of the story too often and ruined the tension. Another reviewer mentioned that she tends to use the same words a lot. The previous reviewer cited it was during sex scenes, but I notice that it's repetitive in other places, too. The characters all tend to start sounding/talking alike by the end of the book, with the dialogue sounding awkward and immature in places. If the author could fix those problems (really get into the minds of her characters and make sure each is speaking with a distinct voice), I think her books could really shine.

5.0 out of 5 stars Grrrrrrooooowwwwwlllllll!, January 6, 2010
This review is from: Eternal Hunter (Paperback)
So good to have another Other story by Cynthia Eden. This one is super sexy with a tiger shift cajun bounty hunter--all those together should just be enough to make someone go right over the edge! Jude is super delicious. But in a nice twist we also meet Erin--a very alpha female! Jude and Erin work together to find and stop the man stalking her--and what a creep this guy is too! Killing men or people who have hurt her in some way as a gift to her--ug!
I loved the back story of Erin and Ben--the detective she had to walk away from. I hope someday Ben gets his own story in the Other World, despite his fault of being human! Even better was the story of Erin and her estrangement with her mother. You want to dislike this mother so much but realize she's always been watching an eye out for Erin and even protecting her when she needs it most.
In this story we meet the crew of Night Watch, a bounty hunter outfit--hopefully we'll get stories for all the delicious employees--Zane and Dee.
What I loved about this story besides Jude (why oh why can't there really be tiger shifter cajun bounty hunter's?) was Erin's strength. She is all woman, small and beautiful, yet fierce and holding her own much of this story.
It's that beautiful strength that ultimately saves both her and Jude which is a nice touch.
This story is a great whodunit--surpising twists and turns right until the very end.
I love all of Cynthia Eden's books and find myself enthralled with her Other world.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Great Book by Eden, July 5, 2010

I will start this by saying that after reading most of Cynthia Eden's books, as well as many other Paranormal Romance Authors, I believe Ms. Eden deserves the title of Queen of PNR Detective stories. If you like PNR and CSI, you will love Cynthia Eden's books. Her Midnight Trilogy, followed by Immortal Danger and then her Night Watch novels are absolutely the cream of the crop in that category. I have seen very few authors who are consistently great, but I have yet to read a book by this author that I have not liked. These novels keep you turning pages, and are a surefire entertainment bet each time.

Eternal Hunter is the story of Jude, the shape shifter bounty hunter, and Erin the DA with abilities of her own. The chemistry between the two main characters is wonderful. The interactions between the two characters keep the book moving. The plot itself is interesting as well. Ms. Eden's plotlines are never entirely predictable, and this is no exception. I won't go into the details because I really don't want to ruin this for anyone.

If you are thinking of trying this out as a freebie, do not hesitate. You will fly through it, and then want to get the rest of her books. If you miss this as a freebie, get it anyway. Cynthia Eden is a wonderful author and most readers will thoroughly enjoy this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good, July 2, 2010

Erin Jerome is running; running from her past, from herself, and from a crazed psychotic admirer. She has moved from Lillian to Baton Rouge in hopes of a new life that is normal despite the fact that she's psychic and part wolf (who can't shift). However, life takes twists and turns and she finds herself facing what she was running from head on. Her stalker keeps killing people "for her" as gifts to show how much he cares. This forces her to hire a shifter to hunt him down which goes completely against her "I want to be normal" routine. The mystery of who her stalker is keeps you guessing until the end. I was quite impressed with that. Normally I can figure it out early on, but this didn't give it away. It's a page turner that has love, fighting, passion, and funny parts.

The characters are well written and defined. Although I was put off by Jude at first, I ended up liking him by about chapter 3. Erin was a little bit more difficult for me to really like, but she is still a good character. I like Dee the most because of her spunk and Zane second; although these were secondary characters and didn't get much play. You find yourself connecting with the people in the story and the flow of the plot is great. If you can get past some of the repetitive lingo in the love scenes, it's a great book. That would be my only complaint. I felt like the language was just the same from the one before and by the end I would just skip the scene completely.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great new start, June 19, 2010

I've never read Cynthia Eden, I won't be making that mistake again. This was a great fast paced paranormal romance. I was hooked from the first page, couldn't put it down. I like her writing style, sucks you in makes you feel as one of the characters would. I also like the setting and premise. It's simple, but worked efficiently. There are Other's, those of the non-human category. Jude Donavan is tiger shifter that works for Night Watch, hunters that specialize in paranorms that break laws, need capturing...
The second Jude meets Erin Jerome he knows she's other, but can't figure out what. When it comes to light she has a nasty stalker on her hands she can only turn to the one she knows who can defeat him, Jude. He protects her while trying to find out the identity of her stalker. Jude is enchanted by Erin's demeanor and amber eyes. Things develop between the two to the point they never want to let go. It was a good book, sympathize with the characters pasts, while enjoying their present state of affairs. I look forward to reading the next!

4.0 out of 5 stars 4.5 stars loved it, January 4, 2010
This review is from: Eternal Hunter (Paperback)
Cynthia Eden does a wonderful job taking readers back into the world of the Others. ADA Erin Jerome has spent her life trying to hide that she is not quite human. A recent case has her running into bounty hunter Jude Donovan. Jude is all Other and makes no attempts to hide it from his fellow Others. He enjoys who he is and knows what Erin is the moment he catches her scent. From there we have a stalker and killer on the loose. Jude stays by Erin's side to protect her and the pages sizzle from there on out. LOVVVEED this. I was 50/50 on Immortal Danger? The dragon story but with Eternal Hunter I was engrossed from the first pages and sucked in. The love scenes were smoking and went hand in hand with the plot and storyline. Jude and Erin were well written characters that I'm adding up there with Emily the monster doc and her were shifter Colin. Eden was already on my auto buy list but after reading this I'm even more glad that I snatched this off the shelves. Readers will enjoy this and close it with a satisfied feeling

2.0 out of 5 stars Eternal... yes, it lasted way too long, July 12, 2010

I am giving an extra star for concept. The author had a nice idea for the standard paranormal romance that everyone else is churning out. For me, a one star is a book with NO redeeming qualities. But 25% in, I found myself tapping the status to see how much was left. Overall I found the story AND writing unimaginative, redundant, and offensive on an intellectual level.

Writing "style":
No one has a unique inner voice. The point of view jumps are random, unclear, and confusing- probably because every single character uses the same phrases to describe each concept. Three different (male & female) characters mention a "busted out knee" within 5 or 10 pages at one point. Every single character describes any female as "the lady," even the hooker. Who looks at a hooker and thinks to themselves "...the lady was wearing fishnet?" I could have given some leeway for the southern setting, but there are no other descriptors used. I suspect a word find for "the lady" would come back with more hits than The Beatles.

"Content":
It is likely that everyone sounded the same because they all had the same background. The only character with any redeeming values, the one who draws you in and makes you care, is the grandmother of random side characters/victims who only has a cameo of a few lines/pages. Every character is a victim, from the main heroes to the serial killers (yes, plural).

"Romance":
Lying by omission is incredibly sexy. It completely makes you want to see the character get laid, doesn't it? Hmm, maybe it's just me. There was a bit of good here. Animal lust is powerful, but the main heroine did have an emotional draw to the main love interest. He made her feel safe and able to be herself. Great in concept.

I just wish it had been delivered better, in full sentences.
