5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Read For Gothic Horror Fans!
I have just finished reading ETERNAL NIGHT by Jessica Barone. I don't usually read this type of book. But, after reading the editorial review I was hooked - a Vampire Novel that takes place in modern day 80's and 90's, I just had to give it a try. I could not put this book down. Jessica Barone captures everything that is human, and brings it into the struggling dark...

2.0 out of 5 stars Anne Rice Wannabe?
Hey, the author is young, she likes vampires, and that much shows in her fiction.

Problem is, the story is unoriginal, the characterizations are non-existentent, and the plot is cliched.

Still she managed to get the book published. So, two stars for perserverance, and not listening to her editors/critics.

Eternal Night is packed with emotion and is extremely visual. I highly recommend this book to Gothic Horror Fans!!! I will definitely look for more books by Jessica Barone.

Well written! The story was exciting and consuming. Towards the end I stayed up until 2:00am to finish it. I highly recommend this book to anyone - young and old. Well worth the time. I bought the second book and can't wait to start reading it.

5.0 out of 5 stars VAMPIRES IN VERMONT?, January 31, 2002
This review is from: Eternal Night (Paperback)
What a great book! It's action packed and at times very tense. There's a lot of emotion in Barone's writing. She really brings her characters to life. This is a modern day vampire tale that once you start reading you can't stop until its over. Barone reveals the conflict within between good and evil. This conflict stirs not only within Julia who encounters these dark immortals, but within these predators as well. If you plan a hike in the mountains of Vermont this Spring, better make that a daytime activity..................

5.0 out of 5 stars A little of this, a little of that, June 13, 2005
This review is from: Eternal Night (Paperback)
I've read this book several times in the years it has been on the stands. It's very well done, considering this was the author's first novel and she was thirteen years old when she started writing it. I've been on her website too, where she states her early influences, including popular movies. Clearly, they are present, however, as you move on into the second and the third part of the book, you notice that the "fairy-tale" or "movie-style" of the book fades away, being replaced by complex family dynamics, and heavy plot twists. The characters are very three dimensional, all with their own backgrounds. They're from Vermont, Paris, Ireland, etc. The heroine of the book really is Julia afteral, since she survives and the rest of the early cast is killed off. In all, I'd say this book takes a little of this and a little of that from all the author's young life, mixes it up and makes it her own. Well worth the price. Read and believe.

5.0 out of 5 stars EXCITING TALE OF THE MODERN DAY VAMPIRE!!!, October 16, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Eternal Night (Paperback)
What a terrific tale of modern day vampires! I'm new to this genre. A friend told me about this book by Jessica Barone, and I couldn't put it down once I started. This book is filled with things so common that we see and hear everyday (and night!) yet the author brings to life the uncommon (and the un-dead!) in a tale that is filled with many emotions. A very exciting and at times terrifying tale. I can't wait to read the next book in this series by Jessica Barone.

I wasn't overly impressed with this book. It was just too much like the movie "Lost Boys" and thus lacked an important element of any book...originiality. This book even had a set of twins who are vampire slayers, just like the Frog Brothers. It was copied down to the teensiest of details, primarily in the first section. You had the gang of biker vampires, the meeting at a carnival, the drinking of blood out of a bottle, presumed by the unexpecting drinker to be wine. The other sections were somewhat better. The heroine was alright, but the lead male character, Jonathan was so annoying, I found myself having to stop reading several times. The synopsis of this book sounds wonderful, but the writing is sorely lacking in flare and style. It comes across like a hundred other vampire books I've read. It wasn't really worth the price of admission.
