Sexy dinosaurs and unforgettable vampires...what more can you ask for?,
This review is from: Eternal Prey: Gods of the Night (Mass Market Paperback)
Forget vampires, werewolves, and demons. The Gods of the Night, nicknamed the Eleven are not your ordinary paranormal creatures. They are otherkin; souls of ancient dinosaurs placed in the bodies of humans to help save mankind.
But Utah, one of the Gods of the Night felt trapped. He no longer cared for his mission as one of the Eleven. His energy, his rage, is directed to one species...vampires. Determined to avenge his brother's death, Utah released his beast, bent on destroying every vampire he crossed. The first words Lia, the new leader of the Northeast vampires were: "Pull over, you prehistoric jerk." Beautiful and mortal Lia is charged with finding the leader of rogue vampires that are killing humans and other immortals throughout Portland, Oregon. Forced to work together, they searched for the leader of these rogue vampires and discovered a strong attraction to each other that is threatened by his hatred of vampires and her fear of his inner beast. In the third book of the Gods of the Night series, Eternal Prey is the best book yet! Twists and unexpected turns keep you glued to the pages flipping each to find out what comes next. Nina Bangs created characters you quickly fall in love with and a novel filled with emotional drama, steamy love scenes, and continuing action.

The ultimate bad boy,
This review is from: Eternal Prey: Gods of the Night (Mass Market Paperback)
This is the third book in the Gods of the Night series where a group of eleven men with the souls and shifting abilities of predator dinosaurs are led by Fin, an immortal with god-like abilities. Their goal is to prevent the destruction of humanity at the end of a cycle on December 21, 2012. His counterpart, tagged with the name Zero, believes it's time to shake things up by wiping out humans and letting the supernaturals take over. To that end, Zero has his own group of immortals recruiting supernaturals and causing chaos in major cities.
Utah has the soul of an utahraptor and is paired up with Lia, a human in charge of a band of vampires after fighting for the position in the prior book. The daughter of vampires, she plans on becoming one, much to Utah's chagrin as he'd prefer to kill all of them. But Fin had seen millennia ago that Lia was needed to send one of Zero's minions back to the cosmos. The ultimate predator--can you possibly pick a more dangerous bad boy? The sexual tension is fantastic, and while you know the outcome will be good--it is a romance after all--elements of how they work out their issues and stop their target isn't obvious and makes a good story. This book was a little difficult at the beginning as it's been over a year and a half since that last book came out and there were people and events that I only vaguely recalled. But that soon didn't matter as I got caught up in the story. Read as an ARC through Net Galley.

Nina Bangs delivers a great story .,

I just finished reading "Eternal Prey" and Nina once again delivers a great story that keeps you hanging on to the end. Then leaves you asking for more. I haven't found one of her books to let me down. The way she adds bits of history with her twist on the different mythologies of her characters lets you get to know them.
Utah's story was one I didn't think would happen so soon in the series, not after losing his brother Rap in the last book. Nina had me expecting a whole different character but now that I have read this book, I understand her motives for bringing us Utah's story. Now I am waiting once more the next in the Gods of The Night series, and as usual Nina will keep me waiting for that but she is bringing back Sparkle and Ganymede in the next book so I forgive her.

I absolutely love this book! I have read all of the Gods of Night books so far and this is by far the best. All I can hope for now is that the next book won't take so long to be finished. I'm dying to find all about Fin the leader of the Eleven.

I have read all of the other books in this series & was eagerly looking forward to this one. It took me a couple chapters to catch back up on the characters. I was not disappointed & it was an excellent read -- I'd forgotten how much I enjoyed the character interactions. I am very much looking forward to the next book and cannot wait until Ms. Bangs writes the story of Finn. I imagine that will be the final book --hmmm....

I only wish it wasn't so long in between books in the series. Makes it difficult to keep up or remember stuff. This book was as excellent and interesting as the previous books in the series. Can't wait for more, hope it isn't as long in between books this time.

Entertaining Newest Entry In A VERY Stretched Out Series,
By Andrea Griffin "Avid Reader" (Sterling Heights, MI USA) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Eternal Prey: Gods of the Night (Mass Market Paperback)
When I say "stretched out"...I mean it. The book prior to this one was released in April 2009...now in Jan 2011 we get the next installment. I'm not sure if the huge delay was due to writer's block or an inept publishing house...but I can say that having such a lengthy delay hurts a series like nothing else. Even though the plot is fresh in the author's mind does not mean we recall the plot/nuances of the previous book which was released 18 months prior. Hopefully, whomever is the responsible party will get their collective act together & either get new entries out sooner...or let it die out. When I'd bought this particular book...I'd actually forgot that it was a part of a series and thought it was a new stand-alone work of Bangs!
Anyway - enough harping about things I cannot control. "Eternal Prey" by Nina Bangs offers a solid paranormal romance which is entertaining...plus gives the reader new types of paranormal heros - dinosaurs! For those of us who never got over our childhood fascination of the uber predators of prehistoric Earth - "Eternal Prey" delivers the story of Utah, a merciless killer who is attempting to get over the recent demise of his brother/packmate Rap (yes, short for "Utahraptor" and "Raptor"). This story, like the two others prior, gives hints as to how/why they've evolved into humans with the ability to transform into their cold-blooded former identities...but still doesn't fully explain their situations. This backdrop storyline is meant to slowly unravel as the series proceeds forward. Without rehashing the plot itself...I can say that "Eternal Prey" does deliver fun/romance with a good dose of paranormal involved. Its a fun/fast paced read which any true fan of paranormal romance will enjoy.

Sexy ...Dinosaurs?,
By Dianne E. Socci-Tetro "Books & Chat" (Connecticut, USA) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (TOP 500 REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Eternal Prey: Gods of the Night (Mass Market Paperback)
Eternal Prey is the third book in the "Gods of the Night" series and with it we continue the countdown to the year 12-21-12 when a Mayan prediction calls for the end of the world as we know it. These eleven men with the souls of dinosaurs have been called to being by Fin who is possibly a God, to battle evil and save the world. The only things more deadly than they, are the creatures they are destined to destroy. While this book can be read on its own, I really do suggest that you read the first two books in this series so you can better understand what is going on. In this book, we meet Utah, who has the soul and anger issues of a Utahraptor (a dinosaur) and Lia, a human who is the daughter of Vampires. Lia is intent on destroying renegade vampires and has neither the time nor inclination to fall in love with this uber bad boy...but fall they do. While I found the story to be somewhat confusing and at times even a bit boring and predictable, it is a fairly easy story to follow and the heat level between Lia and Utah is...well, hot!. The secondary stories were a bit more interesting to me and I look forward to reading more of the books in this series. One thing that amazes me and keeps me reading this series, is that Nina Bangs has sure come up with a new and fresh take on the "good guy". No simple human men, werewolves or even Demons for her. Dinosaurs! Who would have thought that dinosaurs could be sexy? This was an ARC provided by NetGalley.

exciting Mayan urban fantasy,
This review is from: Eternal Prey: Gods of the Night (Mass Market Paperback)
After vampires murdered his brother Rap, Utah vowed vengeance. His quest is to kill many vampires. His vendetta has caused serious problems for Fin and the Eleven as he was one of them and his vigilantism has left a strain with the local vampires they need on their side in order to prevent Zero and his minion from destroying Portland.
Lia yells at Utah who she considers a prehistoric beast. She is also his human contact. Before her death Lia's mother Katherine was the chief of the Northeast vampires. Although she detested many horrific decisions her mom made as Katherine thought humans were lower than vampires on the food chain, Lia still plans to convert to being a vampire soon. Utah and Lia soon find convoluted loyalties, betrayals, and broken alliances interfere with their attempt to stop Zero. The exciting third Gods of the Night Mayan urban fantasy (see Eternal Pleasure and Eternal Craving) continues the count to the 12-20-12 meltdown. Utah is a distraught berserker who meets his match in more ways than one in courageous Lia. Fast-paced, fans will believe in the Big Bang universe as Zero time is fast approaching. Harriet Klausner |
