I am loving this book! Finally a twist on the ever-popular paranormal romance set... although I love those too... this book adds a realistic factor not found in most others, in that this takes place in "our" world, rather than "their" world. The characters are thoughtful and well-developed, the storyline is addicting, and the whole package is just plain fun. Can't wait for the next installment!

Vampires are one of my favorite paranormal creatures and honestly I would love to write a story about them. However, there are a gazillion books out there about vampires, and I didn't want my book to be adrift in a sea of other similar tales. But then one day I came across Eternal Service, and I realized I was wrong. You can write a story about vampires that will out shine all the other ones, you just have to step outside the box, and that's what Regina did with Eternal Service. It's about an elite group of vampires sworn to protect the President of the United States.

At first I wasn't sure I'd get into the story because I'm not fond of cop/CSI, type stories, but what won me over was this fresh new idea: vampires secretly working for the government. I had to read it, and Regina's creative mind did not disappoint me.

Vampires have been protecting the President of the United States since Lincoln was assassinated. They form a special op team known as The Colony. It's funded through the President's Black Budget, and Congress is not even aware of its existence. They work covertly with the Secret Service as the presidential security.

Raymond Metcalf is a head of The Colony which is like a clan. He's tall, dark, and handsome and once was a soldier in the Civil War.

Some of the vampires have special abilities. Raymond can read thought patterns. Raymond is an honorable man who had lost his beloved wife in childbirth over a century ago. She was human and had a son. Sterling is his name. He's a half-breed: half vampire and half human. Purebred vampires, frown upon Sterling's kind, which is another story in itself. But anyway, Raymond loves his wife Wilma dearly and stays in mourning for over a hundred years, living a lonely life-until he meets Alex.

I love it when an author takes vampire lore and makes it their own...puts a new spin on them. I am completely enamored with the premise of this series! A covert arm of the Secret Service comprised of vampires?!? Tasked with protecting the President from threats both mortal and immortal alike? Sign.Me.Up.

Eternal Service is the first in a new series. The premise alone intrigued me and the book did not disappoint. Eternal Service had the dubious job of doing all the world building for the series and Ms. Morris did an exceptional job. I can't say enough about how she took vampire lore and put her mark on it. The way vampires feed alters their appearance so they can blend into society. And an elite group is used to protect the President...Genius!

I was also captivated by the action and romance. The romance between the central characters, Alex and Raymond, had a slow build up which reflects the time in which Raymond grew up. The action was also slow in developing but very suspenseful. That Alex is Raymond's new director poses a minor problem since they are attracted to one another. And they both must work quickly, along with their team, to stop the latest threat to the President.

I adore all the characters that inhabit this new world. Alex and Raymond were obviously the focal couple for this book and I love them both. Alex, with her strength and intelligence, and Raymond, with his power and old world charm, are an excellent match.

As for the other characters, Sulie, who is Raymond's sister, Sterling, Raymond's son, Ben, Dixon, even William and Jackie, are all superbly drawn. I want to know what the future will bring for them entire team...but Sulie and Sterling in particular.

First off, I was completely captivated by this book, right from the get-go. I caught myself smiling at uncontrollably throughout the book, at the relationship between Raymond and Alex. It's a story of love, overcoming differences and I loved the twist given to the realm of vampires in this book; it's different to others out there. Regina Morris makes it her own, and it's refreshing. Her vampires can alter their age depending on how regularly they feed, meaning they can slowly live out a life just as a human; they can even give birth to vampire babies, which up until their Jahrling Year, are human.

"Ignorance is bliss, but it can't protect you."

In Eternal Service, we meet Raymond Metcalf, a 199 year old widowed vampire (who doesn't look a day over 22) working for a secret government agency, The Colony. With his son, Sterling, born of a human mother and has one insatiable appetite for the company of women, his sister Sulie, the Colony Doctor, and along with a few other vampires, the Colony is tasked with guarding the President against rouge vampire threats. Over the years since his wife, Wilma's death, he has shied away from any kind of relationship or companionship with women, instead choosing a celibate life Captain Alex Brennan is a career driven, strong woman. Her personal life has taken a back seat after a stalker attacked her three years back. Up until recently, she had not even dated and even at that the handful of men she did go on a date with never matched up to the perfect man, "Butch Manly" whom she concocted in her imagination.

It is because of her job and dedication that she crosses paths with Raymond.
