Shelter- Eternal,
This review is from: Eternal (Audio CD)
This album came as a surprise to me, as i just assumed shelter had finally called it quits for good. when i finally got it, i was happy to hear that it is really a great album. the first song had me a bit worried that the songs would all sound the same and harken back to the days of "when 20 summers pass", which while i enjoy the album, isn't what i would consider their best. instead, the rest of the album really made me think more of "the purpose, the passion" and some of their early albums, in terms of different sounds, etc. while i still think mantra is their best album, this one goes high up there and i'm torn between giving it 4 and 5 stars... highly recommended for shelter fans and hardcore/post punk fans alike.

I've been a fan of Shelter for well over a decade now and only recently picked up "Eternal," the latest project from the prolific and talented Ray Cappo. I found myself thoroughly enjoying each song on "Eternal" from the punkier tracks to the more thoughtful, acoustic-laden songs. Cappo seems more reflective this time around as he approaches middle age. But don't let that deter you from picking up "Eternal." It's classic Shelter and to me their best offering since 1996's "Mantra." This is one I hope you'll pick up soon.

I am NOT Hare Krishna, Straight Edge or Vegan although I do have a lot of respect for these cultures and the people who believe in them. But no matter how you slice it at the end of the day it's all about the music. That being said, Shelter is a very underrated band. I own several of their albums and they're all great including "Eternal" can't go wrong with great punk music with positive lyrics. Glad to see Ray Cappo is still at it.

Just got done listening to Eternal and all I can say is Ray Cappo should stick to Yoga full time! Now before the hate mail starts let me just say that being a big YOT fan I was first hooked on Shelter when Perfection of Desire came out (yes, I had it on cassette boys and girls-remember those?) and I caught them live in CA on the Mantra tour and in Japan on the Beyond Planet Earth tour so I feel as a long-time fan this is not a rush to judgement. "Picks up where Mantra leaves off"???? How could anyone compare these two records???? Though I suppose if you stripped all the ferocity, passion, and power from Mantra-then yes, the two records are quite similar! C'mon Ray - 5 years for this? BTW, since you no longer have Porcell, here's an idea...get a guitar player who turns the volume up past 5, or fire your sound engineer!!! Another once great chapter in East Coast Hardcore closed forever.

SHELTER!,

Once again Raghunath presents joyful melodies that inspire. There is so much that can be said about this release but for me one stands above the rest, About time !
