Editorial Reviews

On this album, celebrated bandoneon player, Hector Del Curto brings distinctive blend of traditional tango in orquestra tipica style with his Eternal Tango Orchestra and the legendary music of Astor Piazzolla with his long time friend and collaborator, renowned pianist Pablo Ziegler and other leading tango musicians. "...A good ear is not his only quality; he (Hector Del Curto) also has exquisite taste and the perfect balance between precision and delicacy of the chamber music and the passion and expressive power of the popular music of his native Argentina." -Paquito D'Rivera

5.0 out of 5 stars Hooked on the first track, December 2, 2007
This review is from: Eternal Tango (Audio CD)
Review borrowed from Tamara Turner at CD Baby.

"Drawing and stretching the music in all directions, pushing limitations from the inside out, pulling from the outside corners of customary expectations, the natural elasticity of the genre is heightened with remarkable innovation in this noteworthy accomplishment, Eternal Tango. Nourishing and enlightening even for those who don't "get" tango, the raw musicality and artistry in this project captures the elegance, subtlety and classicism often missing in other presentations, making it not only more accessible, but more comprehensible as a dynamic, creative, and most importantly, a versatile genre with endless potential for expression and emotional abundance. While Del Curto caters to the novice, his highly-developed vision, passion and tangible love for this music leaves aficionados thrilled and dumbfounded. In his home of Buenos Aires, Del Curto was already making a name for himself at 17, named The Best Bandoneón Player Under 25; now, in his home of New York City, as the most sought-after
bandoneón player, he is continuing to astound and mesmerize critics. Joined by a tango orchestra of piano, bass and multiple strings as well as a smaller quintet of violin, piano, bass and cello (featuring his wife, Jisoo Ok), this disc most notably captures the delicacies and cultivated beauties of tango that can only be accomplished by a dedicated pupil and master. With plaintive and aching solos to proud and robust dance floor tributes, Del Curto's full-spectrum genius proves a delightful pay-off in one of the most impressive and well-versed tango albums to date."

5.0 out of 5 stars Finest Tango, February 19, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Eternal Tango (Audio CD)
My wife and I heard this CD during a Chicago Summer Dance Tango lesson and were immediately enthralled. Very danceable!

However, you don't need to be a dance student enjoy this music -just listen. If you only buy one Tango CD, this is one of the best candidates for such a purchase. Great performances of wonderful music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bandoneon virtuoso link to the past, beacon for the future, December 15, 2008

This review is from: Eternal Tango (Audio CD)
The debut recording of Hector del Curto as a leader is a knowing, reverent link to the past, with a modern style pointing the way to the Tango future. Del Curto was already a star in Buenos Aires as a teenager 20 years ago, the last great Bandoneonist to be featured with the late Osvaldo Pugliese. "Eternal Tango" is ample evidence that the great maestro had not lost his knack for identifying brilliance even in the twilight of his career. The recording is a gem, every step a beautiful one, the playing by all superb indeed, start to finish. Grab this one without hesitation.
