Book Description

Eternal Traces

Talented cardiologist Meryt Brownstone doesn’t have the luxury of getting involved with people. When she’s not in the lab pursuing her experimental work with synthetic blood, she’s involved with a man: first name Uncle, last name Sam. As an ex-military officer who still works as an undercover mercenary for the U.S. government, this means personal drama is something Meryt can do without, and living under the radar is de rigueur.

But the solitude of her carefully orchestrated life is broken when Dr. Rene Daniels mysteriously appears. Drawn to her blood research, he joins her in the laboratory. Meryt finds herself attracted against her better judgment and is mesmerized by his smart-aleck charm and his piercing blue eyes.

Meryt’s plan to avoid personal drama flies out the window as she battles her feelings and her better judgment. Love may be within her reach, but she is perplexed by Rene’s odd behavior. Meryt isn’t the only one with secrets and hidden agendas.

When she is called to duty on a secret mission in Sudan, the adventure begins. Old secrets as well as lost ones come to light. Soon Meryt is catapulted down a mysterious path—a bloody path she may have traveled before.

As Meryt is caught in a race against time and unknown enemies, her world is turned upside down when she uncovers parallels between her life and that of ancient Nubian Queen Nitocris, who fought for her homeland and for a man she loved.

If Meryt can’t figure out her true mission and its relationship to ancient Egypt quickly, she will be doomed to relive the same bloody ending.

Editorial Reviews

From the Author

I have struggled over this topic, "What to write about myself that I would want to share with the entire world?" especially after writing a romance book. What's left to share? This is my first book. I have travelled a lot. I am a southern at heart and a northern in my soul. I have won awards, but none in writing. I have accomplished many things, but not as many as others. I am proud of what I've achieved, but I want more. I want to learn more. I want to do more. I served in the United States Army and made a ton of memories. I thank those who have served and continue to serve because I know freedom is not free. I have experienced first hand that soldiers make a great sacrifice and so do their families. Thank You! I have helped write military doctrine. I've held the hands of numerous patients. I have created life and I have cheated death. I've held back tears while praying that today was not the day for fatal news. I've told myself a million times that I will never let myself get back in certain situations again. Sometimes I've held true to my words and sometimes I have failed. I have a list as long as my arm for the reasons I love to write. I have favorite authors too, but what is that one characteristic that I want you to know about me? My mind goes blank. I know I am more, but my thoughts become a chaotic fog. There is so much, hence the struggle. But I can tell you something about my life that is exquisite that recently happened. One day while waiting for my plane, I came across a title on Oprah's magazine in the newsstand, "You in Six Words--Your life's story could fill a thousand pages, but sometimes a few words are all you need." {February 2012 by Diane Herbst} It was as if God read my mind and sent me this article. I grabbed the magazine from the shelf, prepared to cut in the line past four large guys. After I received a disapproving sharp glare, I figured I've struggled long enough for my answers; I can wait two more minutes in line. Then I purchased the magazine and dove into the article on the plane ride home. I started the mental exercise trying to dissect my life and reduce it all down to six words. Again I struggled. And then as if a light switch came on, my mind was clear. Me in six words: Never want to stop being amazed.

Eternal Traces by Shonda Brock introduces readers to Meryt Brownstone, a New York cardiologist living a double life. Meryt is a single woman who tries not to get close to others. Meryt does not like to take chances with her heart until she meets the Daniels. Rene Daniels has a vibe that is reluctantly drawing Meryt in no matter how much she fights.

Rene Daniels meets Meryt while working at the same hospital and their immediate attraction is driving Rene crazy. Rene has to be careful because some people would not accept who and what he is. Rene soon finds out that Meryt does not scare easily. Rene and Meryt start building a relationship until Rene's past comes back to haunt him and threaten his connection with Meryt.

Eternal Traces takes readers on an unusual journey into the lives of these characters. The author takes a chance in taking a unique approach to the Egyptian and African culture while mixing it with the unnatural. The storyline was interesting except some areas were not realistic even for the paranormal genre. The cultural aspect did nothing for the story and at times confused me. Overall this was an interesting book with mild twists and turns. I can see from the way the book ends there will be a sequel. I look forward to seeing how the storyline and characters evolve.

More About the Author

I grew-up residing along the eastern coast, always finding something special and declaring each home to be my very favorite. In every city, I continuously managed to meet the most interesting characters and all of them with their own lessons about life to teach.

One night I began to write about my old acquaintances. Naturally, I added a little something more to make it juicy.

This is my first book, but not my first time telling a story. I hope you enjoy.

My stories were created for pure entertainment, to perhaps cause a smile, maybe a laugh, but mostly to take you away from the pressures of the moment to a fantasy and then safety returning home.

No passports, no waiting in line, no lengthy layover or huge amount of money required for this journey. The only requirement is to believe in something more. Believe in the
