Book Description

From the NY Times Bestselling Author, former Green Beret and West Point Graduate, Bob Mayer.

Maverick federal employee Sammy Pintella, obsessed with uncovering the fate of her MIA father, makes a startling discovery while rifling through some inactive government files. A dozen, faded black and white photos seem to point to the existence of a secret US Military base built in the frozen wastelands of Antarctica during the height of the Cold War.

Aided by Special Forces veteran Dave Riley, she heads for Antarctica. But they aren’t alone. Spies, North Koreans and other shadowy forces are also en route, because deep inside Eternity Base is something people will go to extreme lengths to get: a cache of nuclear warheads.

“A federal employee intent upon discovering the truth about her missing in action father stumbles upon a closely-held secret about an Antarctic military base - a base illegally constructed and which has been kept a secret by a serious of murders. When she and her reporter sister fly to the base for an in-depth probe, murder begins to stalk them in this tense novel. Unlike most military stories this will appeal to general audiences as a fine thriller. Highly recommended, indeed.” -- Midwest Book Review

Eyes of the Hammer
Dragon Sim-13
Synbat
Cut Out
Eternity Base
Z: The Final Countdown

And Introducing Horace Chase in:

4.0 out of 5 stars a great read yet with a diet taste June 3, 1997
By A Customer
Format:Hardcover
It seems to me, in this book, that the hero, David Riley had become a little weird and remote. Mr. Mayer seems to remove Riley from the center, and tried to make the heroines occupied more pages instead of giving Riley more opportunities to let us keep loving him. I loved what Riley were in all the former D. Riley Books! And would like to give all of them a high 10, but not this one. It was good, but Riley had become a pitiful, self-reject, a bit eccentric, remote, self-denial person and a supporting actor! I have been in a state of trying to contact Mr. Mayer about this Riley's troubled mind. And wish the next Riley in the Z would become the-return-of-the-native hero as before; a reserved, iron-minded, cool, intelligent, yet warm, gentle and considerate person--a self-made,self-enhanced Man,but not the one in the "Eternity Base" as a somewhat absent-minded, negative, most of the time, even not quite a smart person. I have already translated Mr.Mayer's "DRAGON SIM-13" into Chinese and have published it in Taiwan last year. I enjoyed every moment with Riley and Mr. Mayer, and only wish I could translated all of his Riley titled books(not this one)

3.0 out of 5 stars Eternity Base November 3, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
A little disappointing in this book. Riley is too much on the sideline, especially at the beginning of the book. There just seems to be not enough depth in the story. There is also practically no twist at the end, hardly any excitement at all.

I am grateful I found this author and the Riley character. It wasn't easy, but I finally got hold of the full series of books and enjoyed each book I read more than the one before. This book's pace - gripping from its earliest pages - it's detail, character and location added up to an enjoyable read...and may well spur me to tackle the last continent...but only in the "summer" months.

4.0 out of 5 stars I liked it...with a caveat. September 11, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is my first introduction to the Green Beret books by Bob Mayer so I can't speak from experience where characters are concerned. Let it suffice to say that for this book, the characters seemed believable. I thought the book was fairly well written although there were some errors and omissions. The story line was plausible and well paced, albeit perhaps a bit far fetched. The book read like a stand alone novel until the epilogue which, in my opinion, almost ruined the entire read for me. It was just plain ridiculous in light of the realities of the story; and although it left the door open for a follow-up...I gotta ask, WHY? I'm not really sure I liked any of the characters enough (other than Riley perhaps) to read another novel with a continuation of where this story line seemed to be heading. You'll have to read this one and make up your own mind on that point.

All told, this book is an exciting read and a good diversion and, as such, I give it a solid four stars.

This is a very good action thriller, exiting from the first page and gripped me right from the start. Excellent book.

4.0 out of 5 stars a worthy read August 4, 2014

Another enjoyable read from Bob Mayer.

It's a book I got for free a while back as a Kindle download and just got around to reading it.

A character from some previous Mayer books is in this one as well, but it is not really a series about him and the book stands alone pretty well.

A pretty decent premise, if a little far fetched. A researcher in the government archives comes across some files that contain anomalous information and her investigation leads to her abduction and near murder, the discovery of a secret base in the Antarctic, and setting off of a nuke in the secret base by North Korean commandos.

Like I said, pretty far fetched, but still an enjoyable read. Mayer is more or less a self published author but his work is generally well edited and proofed and does not have a bunch of annoying writing errors in it as so many SP works do.

Its a book that fans of the genre might well find worthy of actually buying.

1.0 out of 5 stars A 1 on my 1-10 rating scale. January 10, 2015
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I tried a half dozen times over the past year to read this book. I failed to get past the second chapter. I admit it is the first book in the series I tried reading, but it was SO dry, and so many referances to incidents I had no idea of; that I just gave up on it. Maybe if one started from the first book in the series and continued forward, this book would be worthwhile. But that someone isn't me - just too dry of a writing style for my taste. It's true I didn't finish this book. I did do a bit of spot checking in the chapters to see if there was any redempoption to this book, and failed to discover any such.
