Eternity's eternal song is drawing me / Is calling me away,
By therealjaneway "therealjaneway" (Midwest, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Eternity (Audio CD)
In December 2003, I went to the onething conference in Kansas City, MO. I heard plenty of sermons and lots of great worship, so much that it's all kind of a blur. One worship leader stood out to my sleep-deprived self, though -- Misty Edwards. I bought her CD soon after the conference and could not stop listening to it. Her unique voice and enunciation, passion for God, and worship style keep me reaching for this CD over other music.Misty has such a heart for the Lord. She's a worship leader at the International House of Prayer in KC (if you're ever in the area, go to her Friday night worship set at 10:00) and sings her heart out on multiple sets per week. She gives everything she has every time she worships. Every. Time. This CD is no different in that respect. She does have a different worship style than that of ETERNITY. The songs here are fairly straightforward, whereas in "real life" she tends to just worship in the Spirit after a few verses, singing random bits from the Bible and other songs. Also, her worship sets are not quite as rock-influenced as this CD. It is kind of nice to hear her songs all the way through for once, but be aware that this is not the complete Misty experience. :D Anyway, I see that right now there are (sadly) no track samples, so I'll briefly describe each track. 1) Break the Chains: A song about breaking away from everything that holds her back from being satisfied with God. 2) Until the Day Breaks: Taken from Song of Solomon 4:6, Misty describes waiting for the Bridegroom -- the "face that I crave...[the] presence that I long for." 3) Oh How We Want You To Come!: The title's pretty self-explanatory. One of the more rock-inspired songs. 4) Eternity: The title track of the CD and one of Misty's favorite songs to quote, especially this part: "All flesh is grass, fading away. / Only You last, only You remain." 5) Simple Devotion: I cannot get enough of this song. She keeps seeking the Lord, wishing only to rest in Him, and He responds with gladness. "Angels, O angels, look and see! / Through that cloud of unknowing, / She's gazing at Me!" This is one of the best songs on the CD -- just Misty, her keyboard, and the God she's worshipping. 6) Just in Time: Describes the feelings of pursuing Jesus -- falling, tumbling -- and wondering what's going to happen. Misty takes one of the most beautiful passages from Ecclesiastes (3:11) and uses it as the chorus: "You make all things beautiful, just in time." Gorgeous song. 7)All That I Want: Again, self-explanatory. Mellow feel. 8) Vow: More from Ecclesiastes -- 3:1-8, this time. Devoted to God through all seasons. 9) Let Me Love You More: More pop-influenced than some of the others, this song pleads with the Father. "Oh, won't You / Let me love You more / This is all that I desire...." 10) I49: As the liner notes explain, this is a prophetic song about God's heart for Israel. He will not forget His people. Based on Isaiah 49. 11) Only a Shadow: One of the more rockin' songs. It's about remembering that our life here on earth is but a shadow of things to come. I always crank this song up when it comes on. 12) Glance: Falling in love with the Lamb. Wow. As I said earlier, this CD does not demonstrate Misty's full worship style, but it's more than adequate until IHOP begins releasing recordings of worship sets (possibly this summer, according to an IHOP sound engineer I talked to in late June). I advise anyone who loves heartfelt worship to get ETERNITY. Turn it up, open your Bible, close your eyes, and just let Misty's lyrics and music minister to you. "This is my simple devotion...."

powerful worship,
By Hungry worshipper (Frederick, MD) - See all my reviews

This CD is an incredible mix of upbeat warfare worship and quiet meditative worship. I can be on my face one moment and dancing in praise the next. Misty has been featured on some other albums as part of a collection of worship leaders but this is her first solo album. I hope she continues writing and publishing songs. I'd buy future albums just on the basis of my experience with this one.

Wonderful!,
By Scarlett Thread (Southern United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Eternity (Audio CD)
I love this CD. I don't mind listen to it over and over. When the music starts, it opens up a deep part of my heart that desires to worship God with everything I have. So many of her lyrics speak to the situations of life and reflect many believers' desire to pull away from the temporal and move into the eternal. I would recommend this album to anyone who wants to come closer to the throne and worship at Jesus' feet.
