2.0 out of 5 stars Pity about the script..., July 3, 2006

Good idea, good cast, nice character for Jon Voight... pity about the script! The dialogue was very bad in places, and the villain's sudden switch at the end strained credibility one notch too many. As for the weird voiceover while Voight's character was struggling to reconnect with his former self... more like a book scene than a movie one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Our Story is Eternal, February 21, 2004
By
This review is from: Eternity [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This is the story of a man who wakes to find that he has lived before. Moreover, he finds that he is fighting the same battle of Good against Evil that he once fought so long ago in medieval Europe. He recognises that all the people around him are the same- same souls, different bodies. He recognizes in an actress hired by "chance" the Gypsy girl who he once made his Princess. He also recognizes the one that was once his brother- a warmonger, sadist, liar, and tyrant. This has not changed in the modern age. Only this time his brother is into armaments, nuclear weapons, toxic waste, pipelines, media mind control, and puppet politicians.... James Harris vows that this time Evil shall not win, no matter how powerful and "respectable" it may seem. That is why he has returned- why they all have returned.

If you don't have an open mind about reincarnation you should probably avoid this film. Similarly, if you believe that money and privilege are more important than truth and justice then you should avoid this film. Yes, especially in the kangaroo court scene, it gets fairly "preachy"- but it involves eternal truths that need to be heard. I suspect that is why this excellent film was not more widely shown. This is the sort of story that the Princes of the Earth will do anything to stifle and slander.

I liked it. I intend to purchase my own copy. I want this available to me if I ever need cheering up in the days to come.

2.0 out of 5 stars It seems like an eternity..., August 6, 2006
By
This review is from: Eternity [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Reincarnation, the battle of good against evil, the rivalry of two brothers over the same woman, strange flashbacks--and Angelina Jolie's father--all in the SAME movie!

Jon Voight stands up for Good (as well as the reincarnated gypsy girlfriend of his previous lifetime)against his eeeevil brother. The scenes from his previous lifetime look like they're from a Renaissance Faire, complete with bad acting (was the Society for Creative Anachronism hired as well???)One of the most hilarious scenes is the one in which a shirtless Voight cries out,"Connect me with my true self!" over, over&over again.Yes,it seems like an eternity.

If you like cheesy reincarnation movies, this is perfect.Otherwise,if you want deeper fare, get "Lara Croft:Tomb Raider."
