Book Description

2003
Endorsed by the Greater Philadelphia Chapter of the Autism Society of America. Big sister Phoebe offers a glimpse into her world and that of her little brother Ethan who has autism. Her simple explanations provide insight into autism and the special challenges that it brings. Through Phoebe's innocence and honesty, she reveals her acceptance of and love for her brother. Not only children, but parents, family members and teachers will gain a better understanding of autism from this book. "This book, with its engaging characters and charming illustrations, is sure to appeal to young children. It does an exceptional job of entertaining while at the same time increasing knowledge and awareness of many aspects of autism spectrum disorders. We hope that this early education will lead to a greater acceptance of those with the disorder." -Sally Linder, Co-President, Greater Philadelphia Chapter of the Autism Society of America

3.0 out of 5 stars Hopping Down the Path Toward Acceptance, April 22, 2005
This review is from: Ethan and Phoebe, A Child's Book About Autism (Paperback)
Phoebe the Rabbit accepts her younger brother Nathan who has autism. She explains some of his more overt behavior, yet at the same time makes it plain she loves him unconditionally.

A cute, well-intentioned story for young children. The use of personified rabbits instead of people seems like a distancing technique. Still, it is just a nice little story.
