2.extremely delicate or refined: ethereal beauty.

3.heavenly or celestial: gone to his ethereal home.

5.0 out of 5 stars Here, have a diva., November 28, 2006

This review is from: Ethereal (Audio CD)
Let me say right off that Amethyste's voice is stunning - her vocals are floating and airy without being fuzzy, and her voice never sounds strained. Whether she writes her melodies to match her strengths, or just has the raw talent to pull this off, her performances here outshine those on many big-budget releases.

Ethereal's opening track, "Dreaming with Amethyste," is an epic and rhythmless synthesized soundscape featuring floating, formless, and yes, "ethereal" vocals. While this is a common way to start an album of this genre, about a third of Ethereal's songs are of this Ambient type. In this context, Amethyste reminds me of Sarah Brightman (particularly "Sirens" from Brightman's Dive). My favorite of these tracks, with synthesis that brings to mind the grandeur of Vangelis' film scores, is "Ocean's Embrace." "Mirabelle Bay" is another of the album's high points, with a jazzy piano solo midway through that seems charmingly out of place.

The rest of Ethereal's tracks are Nu Ambient fare, with layers of synthesizer, lyric-based vocals, and funky downtempo drum beats. Unfortunately, the drums are occassionally a bit too loud. Many tracks shine through despite this, like the gorgeous "Hello and Goodbye."

If you require significant darkness to balance the light in your music, you may find Etheral to be a bit saccharine (the sunflower-themed artwork should have been a clue). But, if you generally like New Age or light Ambient music, you owe it to yourself to give Ethereal a try.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Tender Expression of Love--Unforgettable, November 14, 2006
This review is from: Ethereal (Audio CD)
This elegant Ethereal album tells a sweet tale of a journey: two beautiful hearts falling in love and surviving distance and hardships. Amethyste's tone is so pure with an evokative timbre of sheer beauty--the sound of an angel. Her voice reflects her soul, so deep and expressive, mysterious and endearing. A tender voice with careful control of pitch and vibrato. She glides through the lyrical melodies that her love, Gunnar Spardel (Tigerforest), so tenderly created, while adding personalized adlibs from her heart. This album is a relaxing, reflective expression of love that flows seamlessly from track to track with harmonies that will truly touch you. I highly recommend this album to anyone who loves soft music and fairytales. For these two beautiful people, the fairytale is very real.
