I had to read the whole book for Philosophy class. We had to study and analyze this book for over 3 months. I have to say, it's a very interesting and informative book. After reading an extremely bias negative review from another reviewer, of the previous version of this book, I feel inclined to set the record straight.

The reviewer expressed his discontentment towards the way white males are depicted in the book. I thought the author is very fair and neutral in her writing, no where will you find her favoring women over men. She used a lot of examples and historical events to explain the ethical standpoint of various beliefs, religions and cultures. They are not her own opinions, but that of the ethical theories. She puts it in the perpective of the ethical theory under discussion to make you understand it from the inside and gives many great examples. The writing is easy to follow and not too insanely academic like many Philosophy writers.

I believe she gives updated examples and covers more contemporary issues, so get this version if you can.

I am the professor of an ethics course at PSU and this is one of the best ethics textbooks in my professional opinion. The organization of the book is unusual, but something I found useful and helpful for our students today. Instead of beginning with Aristotle's theory of ethics or a historical approach to ethics, this is the last theory of ethics presented. It begins with relativistic theories and terms in ethics. This is the best way to teach ethics today; starting with what they understand quite well, that is
relativism. And then, she follows relative theories with the more complex the universal theories of egoism, utilitarianism, deontology and lastly virtue ethics.

I too read the reviews. Philosophy will always seem to be redundant to those who do not understand it. This approach is useful
in philosophy because it allows most to understand concepts and ideas from different perspectives.

The book is damaged, written on it, the cover broken. It looks like it wasn't even storaged in a good place, becaise some black droppings came from inside the package when I did open it.
