4.0 out of 5 stars Great introductory book for the uninitiated student!, January 14, 1999

This review is from: Ethics :A Pluralistic Approach to Moral Theory (Paperback)
This book covers the major approaches to ethical decision making. It is in-depth, but not overly technical in nature. This is perhaps its greatest value, as it allows the novice student to become familiar with the major lines of discussion within the discipline without burdening them with some of the more intricate discussions that are more difficult. EXCELLENT study questions at the end of each chapter are another plus. Though I ultimately disagree with the authors conclusions as to how best to approach the study of ethics; I do, nevertheless appreciate the irenic spirit in which the material is covered. I am a Professor of Philosophy and Systematic Theology at a conservative bible college. Given the differences in worldview perspective,I still found myself in agreement with his assesments of most of the approaches covered. I do, of course, disagree with many of the conclusions Hinman draws in respect to his chapter on Religious Ethics (divine command theory) Still, I would suggest this book to fellow educators as a balanced and irenic introductory text regardless of ones religious committment.

1.0 out of 5 stars I never received the item, seller won't reply, September 24, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I ordered the book Ethics: A pluralistic approach to moral theory, paying about $52 for it. However, I never received the item. All I got was the packaging, which was empty because the book had fallen out. The invoice that the seller had placed inside was stuck to the sticky closing flap of the envelope, preventing it from closing properly, which was probably why the book fell out. I contacted the seller, sending two emails over a period of time, asking for her to contact her post office in case they had the book in their lost and found, and if they hadn't found it, for my money back. The seller never replied to my emails. I had to buy a new book from my school bookstore, since I didn't receive the one I had ordered and the seller wouldn't reply to my emails and return my money. Needless to say, I will not be buying from this person again.
