An excellent example of the rich ethnic diversity of Chicago,

This review is from: Ethnic Chicago Cookbook : Ethnic-Inspired Recipes from the Pages of The Chicago Tribune (Paperback)
This is a must have for those who wish to make "real" and "homey" ethnic food. Every recipe that I have tried from this book is wonderful! Unlike many ethnic cookbooks, this book has great everyday receipes that give real inspiration for weekday dinners. It is a great reference for those who are looking for the "best of" in ethnic cusine. Easy to follow recipies make trying something new a breeze.

This review is from: Ethnic Chicago Cookbook : Ethnic-Inspired Recipes from the Pages of The Chicago Tribune (Paperback)
Crammed with ethnic recipes from all sectors of Chicago's neighborhoods, this book is a delight to read for the history of a dish as well as the notes and easy to read directions which makes the end product failure rate very low for the cooking challenged. Information is also included on prep time, cooking time and nutrition.
The first recipe for eggplant hummus was the one that caught my eye as I leafed through the book at a book sale. It is wonderful if you like hummous. The portobello panini is also good as is the Ethiopian Vegetable stew. As a cooking challenged person, I like pictures and lots of them to tell me if I'm on track for success--this book doesn't feature very many in comparison to the number of recipes. The recipes were taken from the food pages of the Chicago Tribune. The editors did a good job of choosing ones that appeal to the palate!

Wide Variety of Foods,

This cookbook contains a wide variety of ethnic recipes, all of them fairly easy to prepare. I particularly like the soups, salads, and side dishes, which is not to say that the Entrees aren't interesting: they are. I use this book most often if I want, say, a different way to cook potatoes (or mushrooms, or beans, and so on). Using the index, I'll find several different potato dishes, among them Peanut Potatoes, inspired by Indian cuisine. This cookbook is worth having for its ethnic variety and ease of use.
