Dean of Ethnic Studies in China,
By A Customer
This review is from: Ethnic Identity in China: The Making of a Muslim Minority Nationality (Case Studies in Cultural Anthropology) (Paperback)
Over the past 15 years, Dru Gladney has established himself as the foremost writer on China's complex mix of ethnicities. This is a primer in this field, with case studies that illustrate various ethnic groups and pitfalls in this field. Strongly recommend for anyone interested in this potentially explosive field.

This review is from: Ethnic Identity in China: The Making of a Muslim Minority Nationality (Case Studies in Cultural Anthropology) (Paperback)
After visiting China a number of times, but taking an inland trip for the first time in 2006, this book was very helpful in helping unravel and explain how many of the ehtnic minorities fit into China. I found the on street insights "the colour" from these minorities especially helpful - they support this academic's comments and observations rather than sit in a card index in his office.
