More About the Author

Hey, thanks for visiting my page.

I'm Steve Weber, publisher of KindleBuffet.com, where I post a daily list of five-star Kindle books offered free that day. I also have a book called "Kindle Buffet" (Guess what? It's free!). It's one of my several nonfiction tomes about bookselling and collecting, publishing, authorship, book marketing, and social media. You can check out all of my books right here on this page.

I'm from Charleston, West Virginia, and currently live in the Northern Virginia suburbs of Washington, D.C.

In college I studied Journalism -- BS, 1987, West Virginia University (Let's Goooo, Mountaineers!) I was pretty green back then, and I figured a career in newspapers was just the ticket for a guy such as myself who enjoyed writing but had no ideas of his own.

After working several years as a reporter and editor, I started a home-based business selling used and collectible books online (mainly on Amazon). Five years later, I wrote my first book based on that experience: "The Home-Based Bookstore." It's a short book but it took me a long time to write it. I'd never written anything longer than 25 paragraphs or so, and had never used an outline since grade school. I still don't know how to use one. Maybe that's why it takes me so long to write, and all my books read like an upside-down pyramid ;-)

Recently I've been fascinated with publishing my books on the Kindle, and all the other great books available. I'm especially keen on checking out each day's free Kindle books, of course. They're irresistable, like candy or free beer. Or, as one Kindle Buffet reader put it, "They're like potato chips. Nobody can download just one."

I started Kindle Buffet in the summer of 2012, and it draws on my experiences in book-picking, interviewing, writing and publishing. I feel like I have a knack for recognizing what other people might want to read, and talking them into doing it. I figured it would take just 20 minutes a day to update the site and, for a while, it did. Just as with everything else I do, it ended up taking about 25 times longer than I'd figured. So these days I've got about 20 minutes left in my day after I've finished with Kindle Buffet.

A lot of people ask me how I manage to do it all. "Steve," they say, "how can you possibly read 60, 70, 80 books a day, seven days a week?"

My reply is always the same: "Doesn't everybody? I mean, c'mon, they're FREE! There's no excuse not to!"

Save your Money! Based on Reviews I thought this would be a great book (even though the cover is extremely off-putting) offering info that wasn't already provided by Etsy..what a total disappointment! I read a bit and then realized I had read all the info before..ON THE ETSY SITE..for FREE! Save your money and read The Sellers Handbook on Etsy's site...FOR FREE! And if you have questions, go to their Forum. It's FREE and extremely helpful!

I loved it. The author is an authority when it comes to retail selling online through portal Web sites. He started with eBay, then moved on to Amazon, and now he's tackling Etsy that caters to people who previously sold in a big way through local craft fairs. Etsy enables its artisan shop owners to sell to customers worldwide. It doesn't cost too much to register and use the Etsy site, but don't expect to make a killing in profits either. The book is comprised of the following chapters and also profiles several Etsy shops, too.

1. Introduction
2. Register and shop at Etsy
3. Open for business
4. Create and edit your listings
5. Photograph your items like a pro
6. Organize and manage your shop
7. Ship your treasures
8. Etsy marketing
9. Find and sell vintage items
10. Mine the Etsy community
11. Put Google to work for you
12. Paying to advertise your Etsy shop
13. Protect your work and make it legal
14. Staying current with Etsy
15. Mind your manners and dos and donts

I found the book to be well written and organized. It was definitely an easy read. Probably my only complaint was the way the book's main chapters were interlaced with several profile capsules summarizing current Etsy shop owners. To tell you the truth, I enjoyed reading the profiles more than the main content of the book. I would have enjoyed the book more if the 15 chapters had been presented first as a Part I, and then the 16 profiles were grouped together as the subject material for a Part II. However, I am sure any artisan who wants the skinny on getting into Etsy and making money through it will not complain about the order of the chapters. They will be reading the book with pencil and paper in hand to take notes to help them get everything there is to get from the book. 5 stars!

Etsy 101 is probably the most comprehensive guides to selling your handmade crafts online.
I have been contemplating for quite some time about selling my own crafts. But have always been unsure of which approach to take and worried that I didn't have enough capitol for a start up.
Mr. Weber's book not only introduces readers to the concept of Etsy, a site dedicated to merchants selling their crafts online, but provides a wealth of knowledge and insight into what really goes into a successfully run and profitable Etsy shop. I now feel well prepared and confident enough to open an Etsy shop of my own.

Would most definitely recommend this book to any and all people interested in selling or purchasing handmade crafts.

Sincerely,
Anne K. Schmidt

Recently, I've read numerous books on how to sell on Etsy. This book leaves a lot to be desired compared to others. Although the Seller Profiles are good, the rest of the book feels like it has been written by a general business "expert" rather than someone who actually has experienced Etsy, first hand. That being said, there are 3-4 pages in the book that briefly explain the value of protecting your work with copyrights, trademarks, and patents, as well as the differences between them. I you want to read a book from an author who actually sells on Etsy, you'd be far better off with "Crafty Superstar" by Grace Dobush, "How to Make Money Using Etsy" by Timothy Adam, or "Etsy Success" by Kathleen Donovan.

I generally do not add reviews, but I felt compelled to do so for this book. On reading the other reviews, I see a general consensus that it is "comprehensive"- and it really is! It's easy to navigate, with the table of contents and the index at the back for quick reference on certain words. I like the profiles from other Etsy users that give examples of a successful shop.

I am new to Etsy and I feel like I can find whatever information I need here, and I think I will be using this book a lot. This book is great!!

This book, Etsy 101 by Steve Weber is an absolutely marvelous book. If you, like many of us, want to try your hand at selling on the website Etsy, that seems to continuously grow in popularity as time goes by, you need to get this book. I opened an account on Etsy some time ago, even had a few sales, but I never really understood all the ins and outs of the web site until reading this book. Like all of Weber's other books it is jam-packed with good and concise information and instruction that is detailed but easy to understand. There are loads of interesting backgrounds about different Etsy sellers and the book provides a lot of good advice. It's an enjoyable read, well-written, and provides all the detail and instruction needed to easily understand how to sell on Etsy. I highly recommend this book.

This is a very nice compilation of basic info for setting up shop on Etsy. I highly recommend anyone new to selling on Etsy (or considering setting up an Etsy shop) read it.
I've been selling on Etsy for a couple of years now, and 99% of the info in the e-book was info I was already familiar with, though.
