More About the Author

Jason Malinak has a passion for finances and teaching others. He is a "creative accountant" who can perform left-brain number-crunching analytics while also feeling like a right-brain handmade artist. He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and Certified Treasury Professional (CTP) who also loves Etsy! His wife, Katie, started selling on Etsy in 2007, and he started helping with her bookkeeping, taxes, and the legal side of her business. He built a bookkeeping system for her and figured, "If my wife can use this, I'm sure other Etsy sellers could, too!" Jason's Etsy shop, JJMFinance was born--selling bookkeeping, tax, legal, and financial tools, tips, and advice.

For years, he has provided answers to Etsy sellers' business-related questions through the Etsy forums, e-mails, conversations (convos), and blog articles. Jason believes that every Etsy seller can run a successful business on Etsy with the right knowledge, tools, and perseverance. His desire is to see your Etsy shop thrive!

He has a Master of Accountancy degree from Baylor University. When he's not on Etsy, he has performed the activities of international accounting and financial reporting for a publically traded company and the treasury function at a nonprofit organization. He loves spreadsheets, good analytics, and entrepreneurship. His Etsy shops (JJMFinance and Epreneurship) and Etsy-preneurship.com are some of the ways he spends his free time. He lives in Colorado Springs with his wife, son, and daughter. He enjoys a good hike and hanging out with his family.

I just finished with my FIRST read-through of this inspiring book. I know Jason says (I feel comfortable calling the author by his first name because after after reading, I kinda consider him a friend) to go through the book chapter by chapter, but it is written with such a fun, engaging, personal voice that I couldn't stop! My book has a ton of dog-ears that I marked while reading to take a more in-depth look at those topics in my following read-thoughs. I'm looking forward to getting down to business & taking full advantage of the downloadable content provided for each chapter and topic.

This book is for the everyday Etsian that doesn't have any real professional business experience. In Art School, they teach you all the basics of creating art, but no real-life skills to market, sell, and make a living from the art that you create. I've been looking for a practical resource that teaches the basics of business (financial, marketing, writing a business model) but that relates directly to owning a crafty business. The author takes some pretty complicated business topics & breaks them down into bite-sized nuggets that are super easy to digest!

I've been (trying) to sell on Etsy for about 3 years on-and-off. I've done... okay, but not nearly as well as I'd hope to do. I'm not ready to give up & this book has given me a kick in the butt to take some of the tips & tricks and apply them to my business to help it grow.

Thank You

Chrissy M.

This book is essential if you want your Etsy shop to thrive. I love it and as a business coach for mompreneurs I will forever recommend this book to all starting businesses. It is a rare find and not filled with fluff like a lot of business books. The author is an actual CPA too so he knows what he's talking about when it comes to taxes. No more guessing on that. Thank goodness.

I am a new seller on etsy and after seeing all of the good reviews of this book, I decided to buy it.

Etsy-preneurship is definitely helpful, but I feel like it skimmed many topics (understandable to some extent, there are whole books written on marketing alone). I also did not find the "motivational" talk useful - writing down the idea behind your business, where you are going with it, etc. I would prefer more practical tips, which come towards the end of the book. In addition, the downloadable spreadsheets were something I can definitely live without, but others might like this feature.

That being said, if you are looking for an easy into to accounting/bookkeeping for etsy, this is a great book for you. In layman's terms Mr. Malinak describes the details of tax laws and other things one needs to know. This book is geared towards people trying to make a living on etsy, so I would NOT recommend it for people like me who have a full-time job and dabble on etsy in their free time.

This guide has more tax and bookkeeping information than other manuals. Other guides spent the bulk of their book explaining the concept of Etsy, which most people already understand if they have chosen to become an Etsy seller. I also don't need an explaination of crafts, I want small business information, which this book provides. I would have liked to have seen more infomation on best the practices for shipping, but all in all, this is a great resource.

This is a great book for any Etsy seller. I have been selling on Etsy for 3 years and found this very helpful. Lots of information from a CPA's point of view in a straight forward easy to read book. Hits on many important topics that are geared toward Etsy shops in specific. Highly recomend!

I bought this book immediately after I thought to myself.... "maybe I should sell on Etsy". If and when I decide to move forward, it will be because of and with the help of, this book. Easy to read and understand....it provides all the info and resources I need to successfully start my own Etsy business.

Wow, I am very impressed with this book. Jason does a great job of explaining every aspect of having a business on Etsy, in great detail, but also in a way that is not difficult to understand. I have read several books on marketing and selling and on starting a small business, and I must say this book is BY FAR one of the best!! I'm only half-way through it, but have already gained so much knowledge and understanding. Because Jason is a CPA and CTA, he has the experience and knowledge of taxes, finances, bookeeping, etc., and really shows he cares and wants you to succeed! I'm already motivated to open up a business account at my bank this week. I'm so excited about putting the "free" downloadable spreadsheets to good use and finally starting to put together a budget for my business... Very inspiring and easy to read - highly recommend!!

This is an easy and enjoyable read. I could not believe how much information Jason packed into this little book. Etsy-preneurship will help in your small business even if you don't have a shop on Etsy. It does help you make sense of budgeting, and gives examples. An example situation helps me understand something more clearly, that is why I love this book. Esty-preneurship gave me answers to question that I have not been able to get answered any where else. Just take a look at the Contents and you will know how valuable this book will be for you.

The downloads are a such a nice bonus.
Thank you Jason
