This is the best unit of its kind we have ever used. It is well constructed and the swivel end makes it more convenient than similar products. It is also one of the longest. We not only use it to get to out-of-reach things, but it is extremely handy when picking up small branches and twigs from the yard - and we have a Big yard. Saves lots of bending. We now have three - house, shed, and garage.

This product was purchased for my elderly mother based on a review she read in the AARP magazine. These types of devices have been around for years but this product in particular was rated higher than most all others. Unlike many less expensive models, this model feels much more sturdy with a more ergonomic handle and a better than average grip design. Add to these features the fact that you can rotate the grip to allow picking up both horizontal or vertical objects without changing the orientation of the handle and this product has been well worth the money spent. If you or someone you know is in need of this type of device then I highly recommend this product.

The Grip n Grab, this grabber is amazing, I had surgery on my foot recently and I had to use a wheelchair for three weeks. I bought Ettore 49036 Grip n Grab and I was able to grab everything I needed to use and much more, even grabbing clothes hanging in my closet that was out of reach otherwise, it'll even pick up coins on the floor.
However moving around the house in my wheelchair with one leg propped up, I accidentally crashed into the doorway breaking a part on the Grip n Grab grabber which made it unusable. So my son went out and bought a Gopher grabber at Wal-mart for me. The Gopher is almost useless compared to the Ettore Grip n Grab. So I went and contacted costumer service at Ettore to try and buy a part to fix the Ettore Grip n Grab. They told me no replacement parts were available. So telling them what happen to the Grip n Grab, me breaking it accidentally, and also what a super-excellent gadget this was for me in my situation, they sent me a brand new one for free, mailing and all. To say I was pleased is an understatement, I was gratefully just stunned! This is really an outstanding product and a great company.

I have several of these Ettore Grip 'n Grabs at this point. I think they're great. I also have a Grappler Extended Reach Pick-up Tool ($27.99), an Unger 92134 36" Nifty Nabber ($19.97, the Generic Folding Helping Hand ($6.21), and the Ez2care Aluminum Reacher ($10.80). Of all five, my preference is the Ettore for general use, but the Grappler and Unger are also great. I would not recommend the Generic Helping Hand or the Ez2care Aluminum Reacher. The Generic is flimsy and lacks gripping power and the Ez2care has imprecise jaws that are difficult to use with small items. While both are less expensive, they're not very useful.

What I like about the Ettore is the swivel end and comfortable handle. It grips well, but not quite as well as the Grappler and Unger. Of them all, the Grappler has the strongest grab, but is the least convenient for me to use around the house. It uses a pistol grip which is harder on arthritic hands. The Unger uses a reverse "handbrake' design with the pivot at the end of the handle where most of the gripping strength seems to come from the first two fingers - which is ok. The Ettore uses a handbrake design which is the easiest for me to use. The Unger is a bit easier to use to pick up small objects - like coins - than the Ettore. I don't need a gripper much for that, so I prefer the ergonomics of the Ettore to the accurate gripping of the Unger.

Grapplers also come in a variety of lengths from 24" to 96" - Mine is a 48". I use my Grappler for outside work primarily. It works very well and provides a tight grip. Ergonomics are not as good for me as the Unger and Ettore because of the pistol grip.

I have a half dozen of these types of things. I have a bad back and can't bend over, as well as shot knees that make squatting down painful, so when I can use something like this to avoid either, I will. This one is the solidest I have come across. It uses a steel cable instead of a fabric cable, so it can lift heavier items (up to 5 pounds per the directions). The head can be rotated 90 degrees, which is a nice feature. It will pick up a piece of lint, a sheet of paper and even an iPhone (despite another review to the contrary) with ease. I have books and DVDs stored on high shelves that this also works fine for fetching. It seems really solid and well built. I suspect that some of the negative reviewers have unrealistic expectations. There may be heavier-duty units out there, but so far, this is the best I have used.

Wonderful gift or purchase! I am short and have trouble reaching objects in my cupboards - no problem now. Also helps me reach those items I have dropped on the floor without having to stoop or bendover (bad back issues). I highly recommend this item for yourself or as a gift!

I don't need to say much to add to others' comments here...it works flawlessly, is built to last, and the jaws can be rotated to the horizontal or vertical easily. I had a cheap folding grabber before and the difference in quality is huge. The folding joint on my previous one was made of the cheapest plastic and quickly failed, not a problem here.

I especially like the construction of the jaws; the soft plastic inserts protrude just enough to grip the smallest objects comfortably...you really can pick up a dime with these!

Very satisfied, I'll probably acquire a couple more of these to keep handy at different spots in the house.
