Product Description

Made out of fine metals for superior tone production, the Etude EAS-100 is the perfect instrument for starting out on the alto saxophone. The keywork, pads, and adjustment all work together to make tone production easier, more consistent, and stronger. And the bell brace and construction help make it as durable as possible. Includes case, mouthpiece, cap, and ligature. It may be tempting to buy a "better" horn used, but saxophones are mechanically complex, and if the horn is not well regulated and set up properly, it will be extremely difficult for a student to play. It is perhaps advisable then for a new student to get an Etude EAS-100, brand new, set up perfectly, and ready to play right out of the case. It will be shiny and beautiful, and your young saxophonist will jump up and down and squeal when he or she sees it. Pride of ownership inspires practice, and practice leads to success.Etude believes believe that price should not be a barrier to experiencing the growth and joy that comes from making music. That's why Etude offers you five of the most popular woodwind and brass instruments at an incredible price: flute, clarinet, alto sax, trumpet, and trombo

My husband and I have both played saxophone since we were young... our children are starting now. This saxophone looks great, and we both tried it out and it was a nice instrument. Great price... can't beat it!

**Edited to add:**

I think it important to add one vital fact I was not aware of when I purchased this instrument:

It is a FIRST ACT-style instrument... i.e. if it breaks, you cannot fix it. You cannot even replace the pads. Research this type of instrument prior to deciding if this saxophone is for you.

It is still working well for us, but I am wary because I would not have deliberately purchased a "throw-away" instrument. I suppose for the price, it's still doable-- even two of these is still less than most other saxes I found, but First Act (or its similar counterparts) is not generally considered a good thing amongst musicians.

i play many insruments in my free time, in the past 20 yrs i have went through about 5 saxophones. from 50$ to 500$, from alto to tenor, all used, never had a new sax. so i saw this on musicians friend w a used price of 256, and did a quick google search for a musicans friend coupon code, and got an extra 30 off, and with a 45 day garuntee. thinking im taking a huge gamble with my time, i could not be more pleased. first thing i noticed was how easy it is to play, and how full of a sound it has. i have never sounded so good on sax. its very well built, nice wieght, all around good sax, esp for beginners. pads fit very snugg, keys respond very well, sometimes when you see lacquered sax, its not impressive at all, dull shine and cheap apperance, not the case here, this is a case of a musical instrument price going down, not the quality. i have hung out in music stores since the 80s, this quality, this price, wasnt availible even in the 90s. in my first 2 days im thrilled, will add an update in a couple of months.
update,, still love it, so easy to play, rich full sound/ i love it!

I've been playing clarinet and decided to try a sax. I was hesitant about buying an inexpensive sax. But I'm well pleased with this one. It's easier to play than my clarinet, and sounds great. It's a heavy horn and appears to me to be quite well built. Everything works on it and it doesn't appear to be flimsy at all. It has some pretty good sound. At least for me as a raw beginner.

You can't beat it at this price, and it even comes with a nice case too.

I've owned this instrument for a little over 2 months. I am brand new to saxophone, but have been a musician (percussionist) for most of my life. I did not want to spend alot of money to determine if I wanted to seriously pursue learning how to play. I figured this would be well worth a test ride for $200- if I decided I'd continue and wasn't very impressed with the horn, I could opt to move up. The alternative would have me spend at least 3 times at much with the risk that I wouldn't be very interested.

I must say I have been impressed for the cost. It has some drawbacks; the keywork is not as smooth as your finer horns i.e., Yamaha or Yani. You'll also have to experiment with the setup to determine a combination of mouthpiece and reed that allows you to play in tune easily (without altering your embouchure). By far the biggest drawback is finding a tech and/or music store that will work on it. There are alot of prejudices regarding Chinese made instruments which result in tech simply refusing to touch them which leads to many incorrectly labeling some as first act instruments. The EAS-100 is not a first act instrument; it can be adjusted and repaired by a willing technician. Parts may be a challenge for serious repairs, but your typical adjustments, repadding, and corking are no problem. However, I had to call all around the Atlanta area to find a music store whose tech had no reservations in servicing.

I have now designated this horn as my backup as I have moved up to a more intermediate horn, but there are works that I prefer to play on this instrument due to it's aggressive and bright sound. I'm no expert, but it was the intro instrument that I desired at a very attractive price.

I bought this sax three years ago, and there is nothing wrong with it. Still plays just like it did on day 1. The only problem I've had with it was a loose screw on the low C key cage, and that's it. And i cant even remember the amount of time I've dropped it on the floor and bumped it on stuff :). Anyways this is an excellent Alto that I would have no problem recommending to my friends when their more expensive sax's break. Thanks for the great deal, and I'm Even going to buy the Trombone and trumpet you guy's make. I love Etude!!! XP

If you buy this horn for a Student, It will need repair one day. My son's left hand thumbrest fell off and was lost. Here is the response I got:

"We've received a message to contact you regarding your recent Etude parts inquiry. Unfortunately, Etude does not manufacture spare parts for any of their instruments. I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. Please let us know if we may be of further assistance."

DO NOT BY THIS HORN! You will not be able to fix it if it becomes damaged!
