Common Risk Factors

common risk factors

With deep roots in acoustic research and the hearing aid industry, Etymotic Research invented insert earphones in 1984. Innovation, education and hearing conservation are central to Etymotic’s mission, with products that accurately assess hearing, improve the lives of those with hearing loss, and enhance the listening experience of musicians and music lovers everywhere. Etymotic’s products are used by scientists, hearing practitioners, hearing-impaired consumers, professional and amateur musicians, and others who insist on superior sound quality.

The Etymotic ER-20 Ety-Plugs
Protect Your Hearing Without Loss of Clarity

ETY-Plugs are the world's highest fidelity non-custom earplugs. They reduce most noise to safe levels while preserving the clarity of speech and the richness of music. ETY-Plugs are configured to replicate the natural response of the ear canal so that when sound enters the earplug, it is reproduced unchanged, exactly the same as the ear would hear it, only quieter.

ETY-Plugs use a tuned resonator and acoustic resistor to replicate the natural response of the ear canal. This unique construction, combined with Etymotic's proprietary sound path, reduces sound levels evenly across the frequency range without changing the sound quality. Result: Music and speech remain clear, but quieter and safer. Foam earplugs reduce the high frequencies, resulting in muffled speech and music, but ETY-Plugs provide almost equal sound reduction (20 dB) across the range of hearing.

Natual and Clear Sound for Noisy Environments

ETY-Plugs reduce sound levels evenly so that music and speech are clear and natural, not muffled as with other earplugs. So you can reduce your risk of hearing damage for many noisy occupations as well as noisy venues--such as airshows, parades, athletic events and motor sports. When you're at a concert, ETY-Plugs protect your hearing without letting you miss out on any of the action. They're also ideal for musicians, letting them hear their own instrument and how they blend with others accurately and without distraction.

Available in Two Sizes

ETY-Plugs are available in 2 sizes (standard and large), each yielding the same sound reduction of approximately 20 dB at all frequencies. While all ears are different in size and shape, the two sizes of ETY-Plugs fit almost 100% of ear canals. Recent studies of both fit and seal, conducted at Etymotic Research and an independent lab, showed that the smaller of the two sizes fits the majority of ears and is recommended as a standard fit.

Regular use of these high-fidelity earplugs while practicing, performing and listening to music will protect hearing from the cumulative effects of overexposure to loud sound throughout life.

Product Description

Hearing loss from exposure to loud sound affects millions of people. Noise-induced hearing loss is preventable. And it's easy to prevent. ETY-Plugs were developed to provide low cost, one-size-fits-most high fidelity earplugs that can be used in a variety of noisy environments. The goal of the ETY-Plugs design was the same as Etymotic's famous Musicans Earplugs: to reduce noise but preserve sound quality; in effect, to turn down the noise but not muffle voices, environmental sounds, or music. These high-fidelity earplugs are effective or anyone who needs to hear accurately in noise: attendees at concerts, clubs, other loud performance venues; aircraft personnel; construction workers; industrial workers; medical/dental workers; workers in environments with loud music such as concert halls, nightclubs or bars; emergency vehicle personnel; athletes; participants in motor sports; truck drivers. Each purchase includes high fidelity earplugs, black cord, carrying case, and instructions. Easy to carry in your purse, backpack or pocket. Available in standard size or large size.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great, but BE CAREFUL what size you buy March 1, 2011
Color Name:Light Blue|Size Name:Standard Fit
The ER20 plugs do work well. I'm a fulltime musician and love them. BUT, the last pair I got turned out to be the "Baby Blues" which are made "for small ear canals". The descriptions here are very weak and it's easy to make that mistake. The actual sound filter is inside the stem, but the silicone plug (the blue part on these plugs) is smaller than normal, too small for my adult male ears. I'm not sure the seller understands this. Be careful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works great December 19, 2010
Color Name:Light Blue| Size Name:Standard Fit|Amazon Verified Purchase
Bought these for a photo shoot at a concert. Was right up front near the monitors and was able to shoot without any discomfort and left them in for the entire 2 hours. Was able to hear everything and the frequency response was perfect. It was just like turning the volume down on the stereo - just made the sound lower without muffling it like regular foam plugs do. Was also able to carry on a conversation with them in as well. And the best part - no ear ringing for days after the concert either.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for classrooms November 16, 2010
Color Name:Light Blue| Size Name:Standard Fit|Amazon Verified Purchase
We use these at school for my son. He's in first grade and has sensory processing disorder, which makes it very difficult for him to tune out noises and focus in the classroom. These earplugs diffuse just enough noise to allow him to attend to his work and to the teacher. He also uses them during assemblies and in the cafeteria where it's very noisy. They're much more discrete than the headphones often used to help children in classroom settings.
