Book Description

September 1, 1998
In the near future a ceramic superconductor is discovered on the Tok-To islands, located in the Korean strait. Both Korea and Japan lay claim to the find, intensifying their already strained relations. Whichever nation mines and processes the clay-based superconductor will become the ultimate superpower, producing economic growth unparalleled in the 21st century. As their military encounters escalate, the United States mobilizes troops to the island of Tinian as a show of readiness to intervene, if necessary.

Prior to troop deployment, a Hirayama asteroid struck Tinian. Over half of the comet was composed of ice. On impact, alien cells were sprayed into the air and inhaled by a single rat fleeing the scene. Soon American troops are afflicted with the Eucarion organism, producing an illness never before seen or imagined. The two plots collide at the end of part one and explode into part two, resulting in a vortex of out-of-control events. As World War III brews, Dr. Robert Skillman works furiously to discover a cure for the deadly disease and prevent two Armageddons.

Editorial Reviews

Review

A cliff-hanger ... Eucarion makes comparable books seem like slow-moving freight trains. -- Migael Pacheco

Like a virus, Curt Samlaska's infectious prose style insinuates itself into the reader's system. Subplots multiply hyperbolically. The result? Total contagion!! Eucarion delivers shivers, chills, and night sweats. Call Dr. Samlaska. I demand more!!! -- Ellen Robinson, Medical Journalist, author of Plague Dancer

On every page of this irresistible book, the compassionate and fiery spirit of the author shines like a candle, illuminating life at its best and worst, its depths and heights. Like nothing else I know; A medical-military-psychological thriller. A real gem. -- Eryk Hanut, author of I Wish You Love, Light Upon Light and Mary's Vineyard

Samlaska is able to provide esoteric details which serve to heighten the reality of the story. His knowledge of the military and medical arenas is extensive. A must read for techno-thriller enthusiasts. -- Bonnie Lennon, Starword Productions

5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't Put It Down, July 25, 2000

A great medical and political thriller with a military top note. Think of Tom Clancy mixed with Robin Cook or Michael Crichton. Clearly Samlaska put a lot of research into politics, infectious disease, and military medicine before writing this novel--and it shows. Not technical but has just enough technical detail to seem authentic. A Great Read!

5.0 out of 5 stars EU-phoria!, January 24, 2000

This review is from: Eucarion (Paperback)
I thouroughly enjoyed Samlaska's Eucarion. Being a physician in the military stationed in the South Pacific, the book took on a special meaning for me. Samlaska skillfully interweaves currently used technology and knowledge with future "could be" technology to add a sense of realism to the plot. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants an engaging thrill.

5.0 out of 5 stars Eucarion is well thought out and extremely original., November 7, 1999

Mr. Samlaska provided me with a riveting reading experience. I started this book on Friday and finished it on Sunday morning. Eucarion is a page-turner in the style of one of my favorite authors, Michael Crichton. Curt P. Samlaska shows off his vast knowledge in the areas of science, medicine, and psychology. Do yourself a favor and purchase this book.
