These 52 reflections from the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration follow a pattern established by St. Clare of Assisi (1194-1253). The steps are gaze upon, consider, contemplate, and imitate Christ. In each reflection, the gaze heading introduces a quotation from or related to Clare or her contemporary, St. Francis. Consider presents a meditation in the Franciscan tradition. Contemplate offers a new prayer. Imitate suggests a response to a present-day challenge related to the topic.

Looking at the reflection Fear No Evil, we "gaze" at an excerpt from the Acts of the Process of Canonization of Clare of Assisi regarding an incident when the Saracens attacked the cloister. Under "consider," the author expands on the story, explaining the situation in 1244 when Emperor Frederick II, enlisted the Saracens (now called Muslims) in his war against the pope. The bedridden St. Clare asked that she be taken to the convent gate where she set out a box containing the Eucharist before the attackers, praying for protection of her sisters. The invaders withdrew. The "contemplation" prayer asks God to give us the same kind of courage and protection from fears that Clare found on this and other occasions. The final element of the reflection, "imitate" suggests offering our fears to God, sitting in silence with eyes closed and calling to mind and handing over one fear at a time, imagining each one "dropping out of your hands and into God's care."

These reflections are suitable for individual and group use, can be adapted to any occasion, and are packed with powerful insights that invite frequent re-visiting.

This is one of those 'little books' that should be on every Catholic Church bookrack or pamphlet rack.
It is a real eye-opener for people who might consider Eucharistic Adoration but don't know
how they would pass the time... in the silence!

If you have problems quieting your thoughts and really "getting there" to be with the Lord this book is a must. They are fairly short meditations that really help to focus your thoughts during meditation. Great book, I love this one.
