5.0 out of 5 stars Cleveland Rocks
This CD runs the gamut of the Cleveland experience with songs ranging from "There's No Surf in Cleveland" to the earthy "Hard To Say Goodbye." Pete Hewlett and Rich Reising join with Eric Carmen on production to give you the best of Cleveland. It rocks!

3.0 out of 5 stars BA Music (Piano), University of Akron
One song makes this album an Eric Carmen Collector's must have. It was written and produced by the Cleveland native but performed by a fledgling band (Epic Records 1979). I remember listening to this album with keen interest when I was a high school senior (1980) prior to entering music school.

I was most impressed by a single cut that had more promise than any others...

5.0 out of 5 stars Vintage Pete Hewlett, November 30, 2001
This review is from: Euclid Beach Band (Audio CD)
Euclid Beach Band was one of the early efforts of singer-songwriter Pete Hewlett. His collaboration with Eric Carmen and Rich Reising took the Cleveland-Pittsburgh sound to a unique level for that era. Hewlett's enormous talent and charisma carried him on to work with Carly Simon, his own band, Novo Combo, with Santana drummer Mike Schrieve, and later a stint with Billy Joel.

This CD allows you to hear Hewlett's raw talent before he honed his voice into the rich musical instrument it is today.

I was most impressed by a single cut that had more promise than any others on the album. It was performed with far greater professional production style and musicianship than the other tracks. I was sure that the single would be their only chance at hitting the charts. Unfortunately it didn't "strike oil", but helped propel careers on other frontiers. "I Need You" was a beautiful and simple ballad with heart...an Eric Carmen Gem with a different band fronting, but his signature is all over it. I'm amazed that it hasn't been re-done by anyone, especially Eric himself.

Had they focused on this single and not "There's No Surf in Cleveland USA" a campy "Beach Boy" style parody, perhaps the band might have lasted longer than this album.
