Eugen Weber was indeed a great historian. This book, supposedly a tribute to him, is really a non-book full of generally uninformative scraps that one could learn from Wikipedia (plus a long religious tract that takes up most of the space and has virtually nothing to do with Prof Weber except for a tenuous connection with his book, Apocalypses: Prophecies, Cults, and Millennial Beliefs). Along with disorganization, the writing is pretty horrible. In short, if your interest is in Eugen Weber and his contribution to European (especially French) history, don't waste your time or money.

The book contained very little information about Eugen Weber. The majority of the book went Biblical.
I think the author was trying to convert me which is not why I wanted a book about Professor Weber.
I wrapped it in plastic and sent it to the garbage dump, not recycle, as I was afraid it might survive.

Eugene Weber's Western Tradition is an ongoing source of fascination and erudition for me. I find it way above the average, perhaps this is why it is offered again and again. To me it never is without interest.I will not bother to read this ostensible tribute. I would far prefer to read a work of his first. What a delightful man he was! Watch the Western Tradition. It is worth anyone's time, over and over. I took a degree from UCLA history dept. when they offered many great teachers for which I am so thankful! Not a way to make a fortune but remarkably satisfying to the soul & spirit. This entire non-review exercise was really an excuse to laud Dr. Weber.
Cheers and thanks,
Patricia
